A bit off subject but it does pertain to odd-ball pricing on these shows. Last night on an episode of Pawn Stars the Shop bought a Snoop Dog doll / Action figure from 2001 for $100.....which means they think the store can resell it for more than $100. The items sells for $30 on eBay......

Pawn Stars is 99% staged.

Even the "customers" are bad actors.

You ever notice how, when someone comes in to sell an item, there is barely anyone else in the store with them? Yet, in all their cut scenes, the store is jam packed?

Wouldnt surprise me to find out that the store isnt a real pawn shop either

It's a real pawn shop. If you want to be on TV, I believe you have to apply. That is why they always seem to know everything about the item, and why they can get a hold of experts on such short notice

The expert couldn't have gone out of his way to bring penny sleeves?

Bah! I missed it!

But Jeff N. told me to check out Rick's (from Pawn STars) book. Supposedly he talks about just how fake the show is... getting to where the shop is was very real, but most of the items brought in aren't really for sale.

They are filming one by the same company here at a pawn shop in my home town, and they've been rounding up "sellers" for weeks. At first I had heard if you go in to sale that it must be completed if you accept the offer, but then I heard that you weren't obligated.

It airs again in an hour I think?

Top Shot comes on at 9. I'll try to catch it online.

I'd say the buyer could have bought graded copies of each card in better condition and still saved some coin. They went a little overboard.

For anyone still watching.

The seller wants $300 for the speak easy piano. If I owned a house, I would drop that in a heart beat for it. A new cabinet for my card collection is $600 here and is nothing worth showing off to friends. That thing is freaking awesome.

I'm watching the replay right now. It bothers me, too, that the "expert' didn't bother to try to get these things into a more-presentable state. Or that no one thought to mention that they'd do far better graded.

I mean.. just seeing some of the examples - aren't a good bit of them very commonly reprinted? The know the Dean is and the Paige, too.

That seller needs to send the buyer a Christmas card. They grossly overpaid.

probably might also have a early 2000's fleer Pat Burrell auto (see opening sequence of Storage Wars).
I can't believe they show that in the opening segment like it's somthing great. But hey, they also show a 90 Leaf Sosa!

At one point it was. :)

The episode of SW that is from cracks me up. Not only does the guy that bought the unit grotesquely overvalue the cards, but so does the "expert" they take them to.

I really want to see that episode. Every time it airs, I've missed it. I'm curious to see what they're valued at.

If I remember correctly, it was something like this..

Manny Ramirez Fleer Auto - $75
David Ortiz Fleer Auto - $75
Early 2000's Lakers Auto Ball - $400
Willie McCovey Ball - $150

That's about all I remember. haha

Chumlee seems to have bought the doll for his 'PC' and then ended up having to use it to get back in the poker game towards the end of the show.

When they showed the preview, I thought that was a 10 -20 item. Was shocked when chumlee bought it for 100. That obviously was a fix, makes u wonder how much of that show is really a totsl fake.

This example doesn't even compare to the episode when they found a bunch of 70's low-end stuff in toploaders and the buyer (Dave) appraised them at $2k.... ROFL

I could have bought those cards twice on Ebay for that price. Non-collectors really have no sense of value for cards. And to think he would have went to $3000.00. ::facepalm::

You could have probably have bought them four or five times. I wonder if that guy really thought he was getting "Rookie Cards" because of thats what the toploaders said.
