I guess the answer is he can't handle the position anymore, but why in the world isnt' Xavier Nady an option to replace Arod for the first month rather than Cody Ransom?

Nady is supposedly pushing Nick Swisher to the bench,,,,But he came up as a 3rd baseman. How bad could he be, that they're willing to bat Ransom over Swisher???

To me it's an easy pick

Nady AND Swisher start, Ransom on the bench.

thoughts?

Nady has only played three games at third in his six-year career, so he's probably pretty rusty. I'm not familiar with Ransom, but if Swisher hits like he did last year the dropoff in offensive production between Ransom and Swisher would be worth it for someone who can field. Third base is a tough position to play all of a sudden if you haven't practiced in a long time. Also, if Nady starts in the OF then he won't have to make the transition back to the OF when A-Rod comes back.

Agreed that he's probably rusty, i'm just wondering if they've even considered this.

As to Swisher hitting like he did last year, it was supposedly a statistically very 'unlucky' year for him. His BABIP was unusually low, pointing to a turnaround this year. Also, if he hits like he did last year, he won't be a Yankee for long.

I think he's a .280, 30 HR guy, and he should be playing over Cody Ransom, 3b-defense be damned.

After watching the combo of Guillen/Cabrera at 3rd last year. I'd say it's worth a drop in offense to make sure the D is solid. Inge may not be a superstar with the bat, but he saves at least a runner a game with his D. Which in the grand scheme of things is like getting a hit himself if you look at it in a hockey perspective of +/-.
