Does anybody have any information they can share as to why, I as an consumer, must wait 3 days for fresh run of Topps Retail Product that has been sitting in Walmart's Warehouse, "until" a Beckett man comes to put it out?

Obviously, we have all see the Wally World retail gravity feed and blaster plunder, so I as an consumer would like to have a shot at as much unmolested product as possible. So, I know when the trucks come weekly.

But for the past few weeks, the product has arrived and sat for days, waiting on a Beckett man to put it out?

Why Beckett? What is the relationship with Walmart and Beckett? How do you feel about this "relationship"?

Does anyone know?

The "Beckett" company that supplies big box stores is not related to the hobby magazine company.

And the wait is different everywhere, it just depends on when the sub-contracted out merchandiser shows up and takes the stuff out of the back. Walmart employees usually don't even touch the wax, supplies, etc.

The same goes for a variety of products at all stores. Offhand, I know that a Pepsi guy comes in to stock the Pepsi products at our Wal Mart. Something else at Wal Mart is that they have certain days scheduled for when products go out, not just shelve it when it comes in.

I didn't know Beckett was stocking Wal Marts now. When I worked at Wal Mart, I didn't know the name of the company doing it, but the boxes all the cards came in said "Legends" on it.

Actaully a Company called legends does this now.

Yep this is an agreement with the vendors. Walmart does not want to deal with this. As a former merchandiser for Kellogg snacks, you have until 3 days from the time the product arrives to have it on the shelves, and most of the people that do stocking for that company are college students and they make there own hours anyway.

thanks for the input guys.
Yea, I know this Manager, never mentioned a Legends, said specifically Beckett, I said man you have got to be kidding me, the Beckett, Beckett? He said yup, covers the surrounding regions WalMart. Could be a local thing, regional thing who knows.
He is into the Yu-Gi-Oh! cards! go figure!
Anyways, IMO-really weird business model for a centralized operation like Walmart, to have to make three different trips for a quick fix shot at an unmolested A&G blaster!

When 2010 Bowman was first hitting retail outlets, my WalMart had 4 large white boxes, with "Beckett" on the sides, sitting in front of the card display. I waited for days for the "official rep" to open and stock them. None of the employees could tell me when that would be.

Finally I'd had enough.

I cracked one of them open, which just happened to have 4 blasters inside. I bought them immediately and busted them.

Should've left them sealed, though. They had nothing but crap. Karma, maybe.

When I worked at Sports Authority we had a small trading card section. To confirm what others were getting at - our trading cards were from an independent distributor - "Legends" - who paid SA for the shelf space. We'd get boxes in from Legends and they'd sit in a room until a guy came once a month to take stuff away, put new stuff out, etc.

I don't think the rep. had any idea what he was doing, because stuff like Allen & Ginter, Bowman and other products when they were hot would sit in the back room and the shelves would be filled with crap like base Fleer. I'd just go to the room and open the boxes myself and buy the blasters I wanted.....once I left Legends probably lost quite a bit of money.

Never knew "Beckett" was involved as a distributor like that - but I'm guessing it's the same concept. Also if it's like what I saw - the managers at Wal-Mart probably just consider it a nuisance, and can care less about product/an area that is making somebody else money.

Don't get it confused. Beckett Associates has NOTHING to do with Beckett Media.
I spoke with one of the stockers once. They're regional (as some places use Legends to stock) and just happen to have Beckett in their name.

Up here in Canada, stores like Walmart and Toys R Us don't even carry baseball cards anymore, not for a few years. Just some hockey blaster boxes and those blister packs of buy-back hockey commons. I live in the Greater Toronto Area, which one would think might be a big enough market to carry baseball cards. If I want to buy current baseball product I pretty much have to order online, which is why I don't currently collect new stuff.

Well, guess the situation, sure sounds relative within all markets, I guess!

Hi Olerud- yea you would think when you have just about everything else in that market that you would be able to pick up some cards, from what I have seen anyway. Travel up that way occasionally, have some fishing hang outs in and around Simpco Co as well as the Georgian Bay area!

Well, I suppose in the whole schema of things, it could be worse.....take 10 trips or none at all!

Can't you buy current product at all the card shops and shows in Toronto? I know you guys have several shops and the Toronto monthly show with wax dealers.

And can you believe that Samuel Beckett, a poet and writer, fathered a child who pitches in the MLB, stocks baseball cards, and is control of a website and baseball card magazine!

HOLY COW!

And come to think of it, a cousin of mine lives in Josh Beckett's hometown, Beckett, New Jersey!
