Just another money grab, but I'm sure the clowns that still believe Beckett to be the bible will gladly fork over their dough to have BCA (assuming that will be the new acronym for this service) "appraise" their rare cards.

Assuming it is done well, I think it's a pretty good idea. That said, I'm not sure I would trust the people they hire to really offer all that much insight on items that are truly rare (odds are they are not hiring well trained market analysts, economics or statisticians.) Looking at the image it also looks like they will be giving an exact value (the card they show is appraised for $250) which is pretty ridiculous, since the items will likely be really rare and there is no exact price for them.

So the "idea" is to give you a certificate which "proves" value for rare cards? As opposed to just printing sales history or something? How will they track histrical data or do any sort of research around a 1/1 that I pulled and has been in my PC forever lol... this sounds like such a money grab and a waste of money

send your card

I will pop it on ebay

when it sells you have your answer

no seriously, this is probably so people can better insure collections.

.

My thoughts exactly. If you're going to insure your collection, this will be one way to go.

Question... if I were to insure my collection or at least the handful of expensive rare cards I own, you don't think an insurance company or firm would just take purchase receipts as proof of value? Or is the idea that this BCA will appraise cards higher than what you paid?!

Sorry but this just sounds extremely stupid... only thing it would do is help if you pack pulled a card and there isn't any sales history or something.

First one I have personally seen, although the certificate says it is the 57th:

Dan Uggla 2012 Topps Five Star Auto Game Used Jersey Patch 'D 25 BGS Appraisal | eBay

Seems rather worthless to me for anything low-end, but to each his own. Especially when the cost starts at $15 per item.

I love how they had to write in the words "Order #" before the number 24, because they forgot that on the template ::facepalm::

Looks like sh!t in my opinion #worthless #cheap #moneygrab #ripoff #allhype

You say as opposed to just printing a sales history but then say how will they track rare cards that have never been sold. Well if its never been sold how will they just print the sales history? I am NOT saying this is a good thing or not but if they can somehow come up with a realistic value (by whatever means) it might have some value (not to me). Seems like a crock of **** to me.

Isn't this something they should be doing anyway? If they want their magazine to have any value, start researching eBay and list the low print number cards. There is enough low printed cards out there where it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out values. They need to just give up on the "price guide" and focus on their grading.

Will they ding the card first and then tell me the postman did it or is that extra?

Two thoughts run together....

First, was this idea is stupid because you can just print sales history to get value...

Second, as for 1/1s that have no sales history or that've been in a PC forever or that you pulled yourself, how do you give value for that?

Again, this is extremely stupid idea and their "certificate" is a joke!

So the Uggla posted earlier has an appraised value of $25 and they generally sell for $9-$13. I don't think I understand the appraisal process.

Great. Now all the uninformed ebay sellers will jack their card prices up because Beckett says that's what their card is worth. :benson:
