I find it funny everyone is critical of this chick's appearance. I have seen pictures of countless board members over the years and trust me....she wouldn't give 80-90% of you guys the time of day. I doubt she wants some 15 year old kid with a cheesy high school mustache who claims to throw a 98 mph fastball....or some of our members that are clinically obese and weigh 2x or 3x as much as her. I know for a fact that this chick is slimmer than 70% of the significant others of our membership.

Just because you rub out a few knuckle children into a sock while looking at pictures of Jessica Alba....don't confuse that with the fact she would date you or even say hi if she passed you on the street. With that all being said....the concept is just plain stupid, I have no idea what Beckett was thinking.

I think most people call her out on her appearance, because it's the first thing she does in her blog to establish what she obviously sees as a stereotypical card collector.
I'm sure she'd appreciate you white-knighting for her, though. And another thing, it doesn't matter what "the board" looks like -- everyone has every right to express their opinions. I don't see you coming out of the blue when someone says that an MLB player "sucks". Hell, even the WORST MLBer is 10x better than 95% of our board members at baseball.

Same concept. She was willing to judge, therefore she should be willing to be judged.

And... speak for yourself about member appearance. I'd say the majority of posters here fall about average, but I don't check out guys so I may not be as much of an expert.

I sure am glad I'm not friends in real life with a few of you. It's a sad day when guys can't sit around and talk about girls being attractive/not attractive no matter what we look like. You guys probably shouldn't talk about baseball players because I'm sure they are all better than you too.

As the father of two girls, I ask you to respectfully refrain from the harsh criticisms about her looks. It simply isn't nice and is far more damaging to her than you probably think.

As the father of two girls, I think I would shoot myself in the head if either of them start writing a dating advice blog for an online forum of baseball card collectors.

A few points I would like to make:
1. She never referred to any of the card collectors as a hobbit. She referred to one man she met online as a hobbit after meeting him in person.
2. The basic defense being used for attacking this woman is because she judged us first. Really? "I know you guys get a bad rap for being dorky basement dwellers sometimes, but there are a few ways to overcome this misconception." Please show me where she judged anyone. She merely iterated a comment that I think is a common perception by most people that aren't vigilant in a collecting hobby. She didn't say SHE thought of collectors as dorky basement dwellers, she said that she was aware that this was the perceived reputation, which could certainly be successfully argued.

I have taught my daughters that what makes a person beautiful is how they treat others. When my son is born in June, I will begin teaching him the same thing.

It's to your own shame if you feel the need to insult this woman's appearance. Most men can let comments made about their appearance just roll off their back, but I have known countless women that carried insults (such as those written here) which became an embedded part of their psyche, manifested as insecurity.

A simple experiment for anyone who felt the need to insult this woman's appearance: Ask your mother, your sister, your wife, your girlfriend, and/or your daughter how they would feel if someone made your comment (to Leah) to them. Don't defend yourself. Don't say anything about why you wrote your comment. Just ask them "How would you feel if someone wrote (this) about you?" I guarantee you that almost all of them will tell you that it would hurt them.

And I simply don't understand why anyone would write anything about anyone for the simple purpose of hurting them.

I don't TRY to tear people down, but she isn't just some girl off of the street. Fact is.. she JUDGED.. PERIOD.

Yes, it hurts girls when guys call them ugly, fat, etc... but I think it will hurt them much more in the long run if you let them get some inflated ego and let them go about giving advice on things that they, quite frankly, aren't QUALIFIED to give.

That's why there's 16 year old girls pushing 175 lbs walking around my local mall in short skirts with shirt so tight that their gut looks like a honey ham and their belly buttons fall farther than their zippers.

No one was every REALLY hurt by the truth, and the truth is that she judged the guy on his appearance and let it go from there. Don't take it personally.. it's not like I'm judging your daughter. I'm judging a woman who felt it her given right to publicly judge someone else and expect herself worthy to give advice that she could use some of herself.

I have this take on this outrageous thread. If you wouldn't say it to her face, don't say it here. Some of the crazy comments I have no doubt you wouldn't repeat to her if she walked right up to you.

That being said - I wouldn't, and I'd say that to her face. She certainly isn't horrible but she is also nothing to write home about. Among my peers I'd say 5/10.

RE: all the high and mightiness, this is the internet and people are going to have opinions, even if they hurt peoples feelings. This girl obviously is putting herself out there, judging from some of her pictures she has no problems with confidence. Shoot with some of these she is just asking for judgment.

All in all a bizarre addition to Beckett.
