Saw this posted on blowout. Could be one reason for A&G getting delayed. Allen Ginter madness will be crazier than ever when some of these cards get pulled. Isn't it real late right now to be pulling cards from a production run? I wonder if we see some jacked up box prices when a few Madoff get pulled.

Bernie Madoff Insert Reportedly Pulled from 2009 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball

With the release of 2009 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball just around the corner, numerous sources are reporting a last minute change to the set. It appears that Bernie Madoff, the New York based architect of a shocking multi-billion dollar Ponzi Scheme, has been pulled from the product.

Madoff had originally been slated to appear in the World's Biggest Hoaxes, Hoodwinks and Bamboozles insert set. When originally questioned about the impact of including Madoff in the set, an official from Topps told Fortune, "We thought, hey, if anyone should be in this set it should be him."

Officials from Major League Baseball apparently disagreed, so much so, that they asked Topps to remove Madoff from the set. It is believed that Topps pulled Madoff from the set in order to comply with this request. An email to Topps requesting official confirmation of this news was not immediately returned.

1. Has A&G always had the "bad guy criminal"cards?

2. They want Madoff pulled but Ponzi (The namesake of his offense) can stay?

I don't know about all the releases, but I remember one had a card featuring Jack The Ripper and the mystery surrounding it, which casued a very long thread on Beckett.

It's all about PR. When things are removed from present time, it creates less of a "real" feel and more humor involved. However, since Madoff's victims are still alive, the MLB was probably worried about its own image.

Topps should replace the Madoff card with one bearing their own name. The bio on the back can list all of their schemes like the Alex Gordon cutouts, Jeter/Bush card, Red Sox celebration...
