The other thread about who will be best in 5 years got me thinking...is there a unanimous decision who is best TODAY (except pujols)?

I don't know if it was 6 months or a year ago, but I asked the same question, and Wright was a clear majority...and today, I would think few would still say Wright.

If you vote "other", the vote won't count unless you state the ONE player in the thread who you think is best.

Since only 10 slots are available on the poll I will track the "OTHERS" here

Mauer [ 18 ]
Hanley [ 19 ]
Upton [ 1 ]
Cabrera [ 7 ]
Braun [ 4 ]
Longoria [ 3 ]
Fielder [ 1 ]
Pablo [ 2 ]
Votto [ 3 ]
Arod [ 2 ]
Utley [ 1 ]
Teix [ 1 ]
Howard [ 1 ]
Bay [ 1 ]

I personally dont think couple of those guys belong in this conversation. Just having an good season does not make someone the best. Besides Pujols I think you have to look at Mauer or Hanley.

Braun and miggy should be up there too. I think Braun's gonna be the next big thing. First 3 years in the bigs and has had 30 Hr and 15+ SB each year.

I dont know about Miggy. Not even the best in his division, but he is a stud. I would probably be higher on him if he hadnt basically quit in Florida.
But i agree with Braun. That guys is a monster, and he has made the All Star team at two seperate positions.

Miggy has the best career stats (especially at age 26) besides pujols. I mean he averages 32 Hr and .320 avg a season!

Those are impressive numbes, dont get me wrong. Miggy is a very great hitter. But in my opinion being the best is all around, not just at the plate. He was horrible at third and now is an average first baseman. Plus his attitude is horrible. Florida offered him a huge contract if he would lose some weight and become more agile at third. He just ignored them. He is definately top 5 in baseball though.

This is the most laughable thing I have heard of in like three weeks. He is good, but better than Albert? My list is like this:

Pujols
Mauer
Ramirez
Fielder
Braun
Teixiera

Pablo is mentioned but no AROD?

my vote went to Hanley, but the gap between Pujols and the next player is huge

I'm not saying he is the best, but one can't ignore the power & production of Ryan Howard. He is a HR & RBI machine despite the K's. His fielding has been awesome this year too.

Just sayin, the big-guy should at least be on the list...

I dont know how it can't be Joe Mauer...especially since he plays at a premium postion with stellar defense. I know Miguel Cabera can hit, but he takes at bats off and sucks on d.

Ryan Howard has been better over the past 4 years than anyone on that list AND he has hardware to prove
it. Looks like someone is an NL Central homer.

I'm not sure how Teixeira has only been mentioned one time... ::facepalm:: Dude is a great hitter and has a great glove.

+1

I meant to put him on the list...i basically listed best sluggers and then removed a few names for different reasons (avg, so, etc..), but removed him accidentally.
Howard I meant to remove, his avg is too low to consider 'best'.

1) Pujols 2) Mauer 3) Hanley

And the gap between Pujols and Mauer is small and shrinking.

If you know about sabermetrics look up "Runs Created / 27 outs." Votto is 3rd behind who? Pujols and Mauer.

Didn't want to be called a homer or hear that it is because he is on the Yankees, but for anyone to deny Teixeira is an outstanding all around player you have to be kidding yourself. He should without a doubt win a GG this season and the line of .295 - 39 - 121 isn't too shabby either.
