IMO my boy Miggy is the best hitter in the AL, and it isn't that close. There are obviously a bunch of hitters in the AL, but I think Miggy will go .305, 45 HR's, and 140 this year. He defines "beast"

This year it is by far Miggy!!

Is the poll asking for just this season or down the road in a few years or the past couple yrs?

This one is alot tougher because there are so many guys to pick from really, I don't think Tex should be near this list, I think Ian Kinsler is probably a top 5 guy (just look at what he did compared to the MVP last year) , but #1 would be Miggy right now.

Overall. A Rod hasn't played this year, but many consider him the best hitter in the AL.

Oh Canada......
Ofcourse Miggy.... I knew he was good in FLA but since I seen him with Mo-Town he has really opened my eyes!.

He started Ice Cold last year by his standards but if he continues last years 2nd half pace.... 45 HR 140+ RBI .310 AVG is not out of the question.

Go watch this guy in person if you can.... it's a special sound when he makes contact, the only other player I have seen live where the ball makes that sound is Pujols.

Shep :ugeek:

Miggy is a beast, but Longo is/will be up there for years to come. His is a smaller sample, but he has been VERY impressive.

Joe Mauer is easily the best hitter in the AL. Being a great power hitter does not make someone a great hitter. See Ryan Howard. While Miggy is definitely in the top 5, he is not close to the all around hitter Mauer is. Some of the names on this list really arent even close. Vlad is not top 20.

Not sure how slapping singles and hitting under 10 HR a year makes Mauer better. If Miggy gets back to hitting .320+, which is fully doable considering he has hit better than that three times in his career, I think he's easily the best hitter in the AL. Mauer is an amazing all-around player when factoring in his defense, rapport with pitchers, intangibles, and his offensive ability for a catcher, but in terms of hitting, he's no better than Derek Jeter was in his prime (in fact, he's probably not even as good across the board, though given the lineup advantages Jeter had in his prime, it could be viewed as fairly equal). That's absolutely fine, and makes him a great player, but it certainly does not make him the best hitter in the league. The only thing Mauer has on Miguel is batting average, and even that gap (career-wise) is .317-.310 in Mauer's favor.

Bottom line, I can call the guy with the .925 OPS a better hitter than the one with an .856.

Mauer might not be the best hitter in the AL, but he defientley deserved to be on the poll. 2 time AL batting champ, career AVG of .317 and OBP of .399. He also has more career walks than strikeouts.

While Miggy is a great hitter (who is on a tear right now) unless you completely discount him because of the Roids, or are only considering this season, you have to go with Arod. Based on numbers alone, the guy is on pace to become arguably the greatest hitter of all time (and the argument would include a very, very short list of names.
