Best Pitching 1-2 Punch

Maybe not the best 1-2 bunch, but Javier Vasquez, Jair Jurrjens and Tommy Hanson are a heck of a 1-2-3 punch.

Carpenter + Wainwright have been really good, but usually when one's on, the other one doesn't quite have their stuff. They put it together last time around, hopefully that continues.

Waino has gone 25.1 IP, 20 H, 3 ER, 26 K, 9 BB in his last three starts.

Carpenter went 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 1 BB his last time out. Had a rough start before that one, but that was the only start he's allowed more than 3 earned runs.

I'm almost tempted to put Pineiro in their as well. He has 9 losses, but he's been incredibly solid. 2 shutouts, and his ERA is 3.39. 4 scoreless today so far, 1 hit.

Webb's injury is really serious. Supposedly the D'Backs aren't even looking to resign him. They think his arm may really be screwed up.

They are saying he could be back in August.

Obviously, if the DBacks continue on the path they are on, they will be out of it. So no reason to risk Webb's future by letting him pitch. So he gets two extra months of rest and rehab plus the entire offseason.

I would be more worried if he was a power pitcher, but he relies heavily on his sinker. Now, his injury may affect him SOME, but I think he will respond next year with a great year, just to either: 1) Prove to the DBacks they need to resign him OR 2) Show the DBacks what they are missing out on by not picking up his option.

Plus, with Haren and Lincecum having comparable seasons and Webb, when healthy, a MUCH better pitcher then Cain, it is an easy choice for me.

Now, if you asked me who the BEST pitcher in the league is, it would easily be Lincecum, followed by Doc Halladay and Haren.

According to FIP, it probably is Justin Verlander and Edwin Jackson. Really, I might lean towards Lincecum and any other pitcher because Lincecum is that good. Cain's ERA and wins looks great this year, but his peripheral numbers are basically the same as the last three years. The only difference is that his BABIP is down 40 points from last year (down 20 from 2 years ago) and his strand rate is an unsustainable 86% (highest in majors and over 10% above his career norms). I would expect Matt to come down to Earth a little bit (or a lot), but pairing any decent pitcher win Lincecum makes for a great 1-2.

The best pitching 1-2 punch would have been Nolan Ryan vs. Robin Ventura. Nolan introduced Thunder and Lightning to Ventura's noggin.......................oh wait..............you meant pitching duo for a team...........sorry.
