Does Just Minors count? Does it have to be first year? If it doesn't have to be first year, and it can be Just, I believe he had one although, it was in around 2006.

HAHAHAHA thats laughable

Really, since the modern chrome era since 2001, how many big players didn't have a prospect autograph of any type before making a MLB debut.

Title of the thread is best player with no prospect auto...Clay Buchholz is nowhere near "best player"

Carlos Gonzalez (I don't think his Just cards came out until 2006 even).

Obviously I'm talking about the "prospecting" era, which, while has always existed, got a shot in the arm with the inclusion of autographs. So, for the sake of arguement, we'll say 1999 and forward.

And to clarify, I'd like to keep it to the Topps/UD (but NOT USA)/DLP-Pannini

Probably Chase Utley. He does have 2 2002 auto's that sell well, but his RC card is from 2001.

Johan Santana (2000)
Jose Reyes (2001)
Roy Oswalt (2000)
Matt Holliday (1999)
Joey Votto (2002)
Victor Martinez (2001)
Curtis Granderson (2002)
Josh Beckett (1999)

Tommy Hanson had a prospect auto but it was after he had actually debuted in the MLB. Does that count?

Pujols and Ichiro only had auto's after they reached the Majors, though I'm not sure that's what you mean to ask.

Granderson's first auto didn't come until 2007. 5 years after his first Bowman Chrome card. I can't remember exactly, but it would either be his 07 Topps Highlights auto, or 07 A&G. Which ever was released first (I can't remember if the Highlights auto was part of the Update set).

Actually, Granderson had very few cards period between 02 and 07. Even though he played in 05 and 06 he didn't have much out there.

Utley's debut was 2003 (with a grand slam, in fact) so he had an auto (2002 Bowman Draft/Topps Signature Moves) prior to his major league debut. Further, his 2001 RCs are low level (Heritage and Bowman Draft).

The qualifications that the OP was looking for have changed since I posted Utley's name. That said, he is pretty unusual in today's age not have what is viewed as a "true" rookie autograph.
