Best season thus far offensively = Card price Spike? A list

One quick way to see who’s having the most impact offensively is to go to MLB.com stats page and just sort by total bases. To me, this statistic is great for trending card values because you’re accounting for guys who are not only hitting with great Batting Average, but hitting for lots of Power. OPS accounts for this as well, but is heavily impacted by Walks. While OPS is a better measure of the player’s worth in real life, baseball card collectors DON’T care about walks. Just ask Daric Barton and his nearly .400 OBP last year.

Can you guess thus far who has the most Total Bases? Probably. It would make sense that those players whose card values have been spiking are likely the leaders in Total Bases. Typically though, these performances would have to be surprises to really drive prices. If Albert Pujols is leading the league in Total Bases, his cards are already worth hundreds. People here at FCB have been noticing spikes in Rickie Weeks, Nelson Cruz, Alex Gordon, Neil Walker, Starlin Castro and others. Not surprisingly, they feature prominently on this list. Now, if there are folks on this list that AREN”T spiking yet, perhaps they will be soon ?

I'm calling for a new stat. Total bases+walks+all sacrifices+net stolen bases. This basically covers everything other than run production and would be very interesting to track.

How about Total bases, then adding net stolen bases (like you just proposed) plus web gem performances, plus number of commercial appearances (well played mauer) = hobby recognition

If he can put it together, it's well known he has top flight talent. Big "if" of course, but to this point it looks good. (Of course the fact I am well stocked in his RC Auto's makes me an interested party.)

I was pleased to see BJ so high on the list as well. (Anyone who has seen my sig pic in the last five years isnt surprised). Id love to see him "put it alltogether." Can't even imagine what such a season might look like.

I've been waiting for this day. Kendrick can absolutely put up that type of season with his hitting ability. I guess the #2 spot is the best fit for him.

Well Quentin spiked BIG time during his MVP run back in,,,,what was that 2007 or 2008? Then he went and broke himself with a self inflicted bat injury and its been crap since then. Maybe he's done with all that and can put together a full healthy season. If so, he's got 40 HR and 120 RBI potential in that park & lineup.

And yes, i'll bet injury fears have slowed people's drive to buy in. If they keep it up, buyers will come.
