A co-worker and I were talking about how great it was being a sports fan in the late '80s/early '90s. You had arguably the best basketball player ever (Jordan), one of the best hockey players ever (Gretzky), some of the best football players of all time (NFL network named Jerry Rice their best player ever, but there was also Joe Montana, Barry Sanders, and so on and so on) and at the time (steroids talk not eligible, since we didn't know about it in the late 80s early 90s) at least a top 3 player of all time (Bonds).

Can any other time period compete?
What say you?

I agree, I think many people take it for advantage the players that we saw. I think the 50's/60's might have been good too. Lots of huge names playing in all leagues.

I think you are short changing today, actually. Trout, Pujols, Kershaw, King Felix, Lebron (better than Jordan, who had better teams), Duncan, dirk, Kobe, Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Peterson, Calvin Johnson. Go back a little and we got the twilights of Randy Johnson, Pedro, Clemens, Bonds, Moss, Shaq, and that's just of the top of my head!

Wait, Jordan had better teams than Lebron? I don't ever remember Jordan making a big 3....

I'd say the early-mid 60s.

Lousy hockey dominated by 3 teams but otherwise some great players and more importantly, since free agency and expansion hadn't yet diluted the talent pool.

Teams had finally caught up to the stinkin' Yankees and some all-time greats were in their Primes. The pitchers dominated of course, but man, the everyday play was probably fun to watch.

The NBA was finally starting to get some up-tempo play with Big O, Russell and Wilt leading the way. Heck, you could even Dunk!

And football was just starting to emerge as a force, behind Vince's Dynasty and the emerging AFL. As well as better players, for the first time there were exciting, game-changing RBs and even some WRs starting to make plays.

Golf and boxing were front Page sports too. And you got tickets and food for less than $10 and autographs for free!

Pippen=Wade
Rodman>>>Bosh

But I also meant the depth. Miami never really had any depth at all because they couldn't afford to pay good players on top of the great players

Best time to be a sports fan? Right now. In Kansas City. Royals are gonna break a 20 year playoff drought, and the Chiefs will shock the world and win the AFC. Word up.
