I was for Bo, but I was 5 and didn't have the best grasp of the financial side of the hobby; in the Southeast though, Bo was the man.

the values of each card back then were no comparison.. the Jose peaked Beckett BV of $150 and dealers at card shows would not sell them any cheaper than $125 for a very long time. The Bo had a short run while he was at the peak of his career but it ended way too soon as did the value of his best cards. The 86 Topps Traded Tiffany Canseco was worth more then and now as well for a closer comparison.

The fact that one was from a limited box set and one came out of packs says it all. It wasn't even close value wise the Canseco was THE card to have in 1988.

I lucked out and sold my Jose Canseco Donruss RC to a guy for $100..

I had a pro-shop back then (bowling) and I traded a used bowling ball for a Donruss Don Mattingly RC also..

I flipped the Mattingly for $100 as well.. One of the top cards everyone was going for in 88 was the Pete Incaviglia 1987 Fleer!!

Canseco Donruss was the card of its day. The appeal was in the cheesy peach fuzz mustache Jose rocked.

Liked the 86 D Canseco. To me that was "The card" to get. Being a kid and not getting out much, dont think I saw many if any of the Tiffany Bo. Ahh 1988. My local convenience store had Score & Topps and so did I. Thought those '88 TT sets were awesome.

Canseco. When I picked one up in Cleveland '09 at Nationals for $2, I was on cloud 9. That was "THE" card to have.

Canseco's was immensely more popularity in 1988 than Bo.
Bo's popularity and card values didn't explode until 1989.
That's when the "Bo Knows" Nike commercial started and he had his legendary All-Star game.
1989 and 1990 were the height of Bo's popularity.

Jose definitely had the better mustache. Plus the extra popularity of being Cuban at a time Miami Vice was huge. That show's still fun to watch on Netflix

It was all canseco in 1988, thats the year he did 40/40 & there wasn't a hotter card than his 86 donruss.

Bo was ok that year, nothing special. In fact, in late 88 / early 89 I opened a case of 1989 donruss & remember not even sorting out the bo cards because he wasn't selling.
