I've seen a bunch of recent returns from BGS and can confirm that all auto grades are now on the BACK of the flip!

Good news for sellers! :D

Why is this good news for sellers?

Because buyers are more hesitant to bid on auto grade "9" that is the front of the card (on most cards)...kinda sticks out in their collection. BUT, if the auto grade was on the back...they may bid on it based on the fact that auto grade will only show if the card is flipped.

very true. I hate the auto grades and would love to see them gone. Once upon a time the auto grade meant they sign the auto fully or like they did when they first signed like Mike Vick. Now its just revenue.

Yah! No more crooked auto grade stickers on the front. They never seem to get them on straight.

I'm not a huge fan of the auto grade either. Even in the case the auto can fade over time. Slabbing the card isn't stopping the auto from changing, like the rest of the grades.

I really don't think it'll have an effect either way, people will still know what the grade is.

wasn't auto grade always on the back when:

1) on thick holders
2) submitters do not pay the $2. on the chrome autos or thin auto cards, they still put the auto grade on the back of the flip

I am a fan of the auto grade. The difference between a strong and weak grade on a '98 Manning Contenders easily costs a seller $1,000+. Although I agree that the sig can continue fading it is good to have a grade on the slab IMHO. Buy the card, not the slab.

The auto grade on the back is temporary. BGS was sent a batch of auto chips that were defective and unusable and will go back to the auto chip once their next batch arrives.

Messier: They'll add the $2 themselves and grade the auto. Not getting auto grades is not an option and there is no truth to the auto grades being on the back if people don't want to pay the $2. However, you're correct about the auto being on the back for the thick slabs.

I guess this is good to hear. I could never stand that the auto grade is on the back for thick cards as the auto itself is possibly the most important part of the card. I really like how it is its own chip and separated from the rest of the grades. And I really hate it when sellers list the subgrades but not the auto grade when it's not a 10.
