Has anyone ever had an item not show up on the BGS pop report?

A while back I had a 2007 Donruss Elite Jonathan Lucroy Auto graded a BGS 9. At the time I only kept 9.5s so I unloaded it. For the hell of it, the other day I decided to see what the pop report showed for that 2007 Elite Auto and it doesn't show that any were ever graded.

This makes me wonder how accurate that pop report really is. Any ideas?

Good question, but perhaps you could extrapulate your specific definition of "a while back" here so we can fully understand the context? Because if we are talking a month thats one thing, if we are talking 3 years, thats a whole different can of worms.

Maybe the subsequent owner cracked it and submitted it to PSA or resold it raw? I think I read here that if you send the flip back to BGS they take the card off the population report.

We are talking 3 years. Elites are hard grades so I doubt it would be cracked, because a 9 would have a premium, but you never know.

That is interesting, but not the first case of this I have heard...

From personal experience, I don't trust their population report. I had a whole order not show up on the population report 4 months after the cards where in hand. Once I noticed they were not on the site, they said they were behind on updating the report. I waited another 2 months and they still were not listed. So I got a hold of them again and they asked me to email them the serial numbers. I emailed the serial numbers and they were on the report a week later. This issue dates back to about a year and a half ago.

The fact that this message is still on their grading site how many months after this happened, makes me trust them even less:

As part of the Beckett.com re-launch, please be aware that the Beckett Grading website and Registry are still in the renovation process. We advise collectors to hold off on attempting to register cards until those sites are live. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you will enjoy the new Registry and Grading site.

I love the half ass business practices that card companies and higher profile card related businesses use.

I'm not into coin collecting at all, but I once sold some PCGS graded coins on eBay for a buddy, and their grading service is unreal. You go onto their database and enter the serial number, and up pops all the information on the coin. This includes large front and back scans of the encased coin.

If only BGS would take that approach. All about money and quantity over quality.

I have had similar experiences with PSA and MLB also. Within the last month I purchased an autographed magazine that was PSA authenticated. When trying to verify the authenticity online, the number did not pull anything up. Similar to BGS, I had to send a photo or scan of the item in question. Issue was resolved 3 days later.

Two years ago I bought a few Fenway game used dirt coaster sets from Steiner when they had some sales. Once I had the coasters in hand, each one (4 per set) had an MLB certifcation #. When checking them online, one of the sets I had said the dirt was from Yankee Stadium instead of Fenway. So I figured it was an oversight and asked Steiner if I could have the set replaced. They replaced the set free of charge and replacement set was wrong as well. Same issue, Yankee Stadium dirt. I sent back both sets and had my money refunded because at this point I had NO faith any of the dirt was authentic.
