Former RedSox Bill Lee was not known as the "Spaceman" is one of the few not to express condolences over the death of Yankees' owner George Steinbrenner.

Not defending his position at all, but I find it hard for someone who's had such hatred for someone while he was alive to suddenly feel sorrow at his death.

I'll probably have a couple people who feel glad that I'm dead after I die. I'm ok with that...

1. A former big leaguer
2. You're probably right but that's not the point of this topic.

no one special... just a major cog in the yankees sox rivalry during the 70s... someone whose career went to **** after a cheap shot from a peckerhead in pinstripes. also a presidential candidate... while he doesnt need to bend down and smooch georges sack he is 100% wrong on this. just move on and not voice your opinion on the passing of a perceived nemesis. i will care when the spaceman passes away because he was a true character to the game and has a passion for it displayed by few if anyone that has ever put on the cleats! watch spaceman a baseball odyssey!

1. Bill Lee was one of the most colorful, zany and downright freaky baseball players of the past 40 years; and,
2. By saying "I doubt nobody will care..." you are insinuating that people will care when he dies.

Just saying...

I was never a fan of Steinbrenner, but I think there is a point where you opt for some tact as opposed to describing someone's death as "good". We can talk about Steinbrenner's impact on the GAME of baseball, and maybe it's negative impact at that, but the guy wasn't ****** - he owned a freakin' baseball team. Relax Bill - say nothing if you have nothing nice to say.

Obviously he'd been drinking, and no one should ever say stuff like that, but I still like the guy. He's odd but interesting.

Don't have any problem with what he said. It's not like he called a press conference to address this, some interviewer found him on the golf course. According to Lee, Steinbrenner tried to get him kicked out of baseball, if true his feelings shouldn't shock anybody.

I remember he and Craig Nettles getting into it----was Craig Nettles a presidential candidate? Not being a wise ass at all--really am sorta interested.

From what I remember Fisk flattened Munson, emptying the dugouts. During the melee Lee broke his arm and was pummeled by Nettles.

Lee should have just let it go but I can understand why somebody would think that. Steinbrenner did some pretty nasty things to people who deserved better. He also did some very nice things as well. Just so happened that the bad things got all the press.

Strange guy, but I'm glad he said what he felt. He is a pretty important peorson in the Sox/ Yanks rivalry. He wrote a book a few years ago too, a very good read

I don't see what the big deal is. In life there are people you hate and always will. So when they die is that person supposed to say nice things about that person. I think not. Ok I guess this guy could have maybe tried to mend what ever happened in the past but he did not. So this make him a bad man? Not from where I'm sitting anyway. ;)
