Coming from someone who admits to using acid while playing games and smoked pot, Claimed the pot helped him not smell bus fumes while walking to Fenway. He was a huge trouble maker on the Sox and started a group of players to be anti-ownership. This comment isnt the worse he has made over the years, after all his nickname was made over saying things like this and others. He was always in his own world in out space.

I'm a huge fan of Bill Lee after watching Spaceman: A Baseball Odyssey. That was fun to watch. He just seems like the coolest most down to Earth guys who always speaks his mind. I don't think this is a big deal at all, everyone dies and rarely does anyone not have any "enemies".

1. Who is Bill Lee?
2. I doubt nobody will care when he dies.

no one special... just a major cog in the yankees sox rivalry during the 70s... someone whose career went to shat after a cheap shot from a peckerhead in pinstripes. also a presidential candidate... while he doesnt need to bend down and smooch georges sack he is 100% wrong on this. just move on and not voice your opinion on the passing of a perceived nemesis. i will care when the spaceman passes away because he was a true character to the game and has a passion for it displayed by few if anyone that has ever put on the cleats! watch spaceman a baseball odyssey!

I remember he and Craig Nettles getting into it----was Craig Nettles a presidential candidate? Not being a wise ass at all--really am sorta interested.

no its my fault! i didnt relay my thoughts in a manner where anyone could understand them! bill lee ran for president in the 80s (1988 i believe on the rhino ticket)... his political views seemed a little off back then but now he sounds like every other way way way left political candidate! minus their polish! i actually think the dude is still pitching somewhere too!

I doubt he is the only one to feel that way, but could be the only one bold enough to speak of it publicly.

I'm glad he's gone too.

But more importantly, how can one be in a baseball forum and not know who Bill Lee is? I mean he's not Babe Ruth but come on.

I just want to know when our country went and turned into a bunch of PC sissies.

its about respecting the dead and another human. no matter what your opinion of them was a couple days isnt long enough! so instead of when did we become sissies ask when some became void of any tact!

Why does dying create mandatory respect? I'm being serious. Everybody dies.

I do not think death should create mandatory respect for the dead, but I do think the situation of death should be respected. Because as you say, everybody dies.

why did warriors give their opponents families days of mourning? why do we pull over for a funeral procession? because we should respect the fact that we will be in the same situation eventually.

I agree with respecting the dead.

I remember a few years ago sending flowers to the Hussein family with a nice little note thanking Saddam for all the good he did for the world. Still waiting to hear back from Uday and Qusay.

If you have no respect for the man in the physical from, why respect him after he dies?

I'll admit, my post was an example of jackassery.

I think it's all just where people are coming from though. I've always had respect for the guy. From the way he wanted to win all the time to his very generous nature with charities and people in need.

I guess what bothers me is definitely not the fact that people want to pay the man respect in his recent passing, but people who do it just because and likely could care less. I just appreciate someone who is up front and lays it all out on the table. No tap dancing around the issue, not saying something just to be PC, etc etc etc. That's why I have no issue with Bill Lee's statement. He and George did have issues with each other so I don't expect him to come out and suddenly "go with the flow" and speak what he doesn't truly believe. That and it's Bill Lee so you can never really take him TOO seriously as he is, has been, and always will be his own animal. I have no doubt the reporter went looking for him and I'd be willing to bet he had a few in him during this round of golf. He didn't go looking for the interview.

Uday and Qusay are dead.

I'm glad Saddam was alive at the time to know his two sons were killed.
