Wow. I'm sorry to hear that he would have to sell this stuff.

His perosnal HOF plaque, 71 Gold Glove, rings, trophies...wow. I wish I had hit the lottery for a few million. I'd probably actually send some back to him if that were the case too. But I'm not, so I'll just sit back and watch how high the prices go.

I'm shocked and sorry that he HAS to do this... One of my all time favorite players.

My guess is that is to help a loved one in immediate need.

Check out the ball in the all century collection. Looks like a rubber logoball. Damn shame the autographs on it will be gone in a couple of years faded into it.

That's actually really sad.

Maybe he's liquidating his assets so his heirs get $, an easily divisible commodity, instead of abstract valued items like these  Perhaps his children/grandchildren all hate each other and this is a way to kill any possible fights/litigation

Still it's gotta suck. Especially that ball. I bet on a personal level that means the most :|

You guys should stop speculating that Gibson needs the money.
He's giving a lot of the proceeds to charity.
This is from a press release about the auction:

"The event will serve to raise money for the Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.). The mission of this charity is to aid those members of the “baseball family” that are most in need. B.A.T. strives to provide a means of support for people who are unable to help themselves.

“We are pleased to select a worthwhile charity to benefit from this year’s event,” says Allen. “It was the natural choice, given Bob’s involvement and passion for this organization. The Legendary Auctions live summer auction promises to be a spectacular industry event.”

It's human nature to speculate.

The Cy Young and a few of the items were on display at the last Philly/Valley Forge show months ago.

and to jump to conclusions. The reason for why he was doing it was not very hard to find...

A: You don't know how much of the proceeds will go to charity do you? That statement could merely be a red herring to prompt people to bid more thinking it is for a good cause.

B. I still think there may be more to this than meets the eye. I wrote to a website of a fellow Black Ace and the response I got was "It's something that is out of our hands."

C. I sincerely hope that he is doing this for largesse. That would be quite an act.

I have a hard time believing some of those items will get the opening bids hit.

It's been a while since I have seen Gibson around Omaha, hope all is good with him.

My favorite quote about Bob from Dusty Baker to Hank Aaron:

"Don't dig in against Bob Gibson, he'll knock you down. He'd knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don't stare at him, don't smile at him, don't talk to him. He doesn't like it. If you happen to hit a home run, don't run too slow, don't run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And if he hits you, don't charge the mound, because he's a Gold Glove boxer.' I'm like, 'Damn, what about my 17-game hitting streak?' That was the night it ended."

Probably. Around the same time, there's another Philly area show where Garry Maddox is a guest.

Speculation and jumping to conclusions aren't the same thing? I should have added that a quick google search removes the need to speculate.

I know it wasn't. I thought I put a smiley in there.

Finding information on the internet seems to be tough for a lot of people (not you). I just don't get it.
