I know in the past there have been two books mentioned about the Sports Card industry. What were those?

I think one was about UD.

I want to pick them up for some reading.

Thanks in advance.

Had a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card that my boss gave me that she said she didn't think had anything on it, so I just got both of those, and a book called "House of Cards". I am interested to see what each is about.

Thanks guys.

If you love vintage cards, nostalgia, and laugh-out-loud humor, buy this book:

The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubble Gum Book
By Brendan C. Boyd & Fred C. Harris

Over the years I have bought about a dozen copies of this book as a gift for vintage baseball fans. The book is from the late 60's-early 70's and is all about classic cards that the authors used to love to collect as kids, with hilarious writeups and pictures of the cards.

I can not recommend this book highly enough. Absolutely PERFECT! :)

Operation Bullpen is a great read about the sports memorabilia hobby. The author even kindly responds to emails. High recommendation

I saw that one and decided not get it. I will get that one later.

I've read the first three books, House of Cards was a bit boring (deals more with the psychology behind middle class white guys and cards but is written more for people outside the hobby... so not that revealing for people who already know about it), all of them leave something to be desired in terms of writing style and editing (keep in my mind these are mostly amateur writers and small publishers).

There should be a disclaimer attached to this thread. If you aren't already sinical about the card industry before you read these books you will be afterwords. Personally, it was affirming to me because of collecting decisions I had already made... treat it as a hobby that should be enjoyed, thin down my collection, re-focus and spend whatever I want on those items. Reading these books is a Pandora's Box. You will gain a lot of hobby knowledge (which being on message boards we all have some interest in), you just may not like what you hear. I would compare it to American history and reading books like Loewen's "Lies My Teacher Told Me- Everything your American history textbook got wrong". So, I would recommend reading them and expanding your knowledge, just be prepared to read some nasty stuff.

A disclaimer to your disclaimer:

The book I mentioned above is nothing short of a love-letter to baseball cards. It is a nice counterpoint to the earlier books. For a well-rounded view, read the "House of Cards" type book, but finish it off with the Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubble Gum Book. It will remind you of all the reasons we love collecting. :)
