Looks to be pretty obvious that it's the set on the left even without your hint.

It would appear to be the one on the left. When I emailed the seller about it, his response was I don’t know I bought it on the internet like that.

You know the sad part is, I've never heard of this until now. I wouldn't doubt that most others here have not as well. It just never occurred to me that some would open these sets from the bottom leaving the seal intact to check the cards out and leave the impression that it was never tampered with, but I'm not at all surprised. So despite the fact that the 1 on the left has definitely been tampered with, who really knows about the 1 on the right if these "Crooks' have figured out how to do this successfully. I've had a few Tiffany Regular and Traded sets through the years but have since sold them off so I don't have 1 to compare to these 2. But one thing is for sure and that is I'm glad I don't have that mindset and I absolutely despise people like this who do that fit right in with all of the other scumbag tampering/trimming/resealing, ect that goes on in this hobby.

It’s always possible for scammers to try to find a way to beat the collector. Topps did a pretty good job sealing the bottom of Tiffany sets with the flaps overlap, hook in place and then slit the end of the tabs. This way the tab will break if forced open from the bottom. Its not 100% fool proof, but at least it will give collectors something to look for. That why I always ask to see bottom before purchasing.

This situation is just one of several reasons why I mainly stick to buying graded cards now. I've bought sets from eBay in the past but you get the tampering issues like the one mentioned in this post. The people who tamper with sets often check for the centering and overall condition of the key cards in the set before deciding to keep or sell.

This set seems to be pretty hot right now in graded form.

Yeah, many of the Tiffany cards from the 80's graded PSA 9 or PSA 10 seem to be selling well. Greg Maddux's 1987 Topps Traded Tiffany PSA graded issues have been steadily rising for awhile now.

If you were going to buy and then open it, why wouldn't we just ask them to open it up and check out the cards. Yea, yea, I know. Its more if its sealed but I'm not buying anything for that amount of money if I even have a small thought that it could have been opened from the bottom.

This. Nobody wants to shell out a ton of cash for a product that has been tampered with especially if cards are damaged.
