Hey all. I have a few cases of Bowman Chrome coming that I plan to rip. I've heard the auto checklist may be a bit weak this year... I really haven't been paying very close attention. Anyone have any thoughts on hos this stuff is gonna look once live in a couple of weeks? Mike

I was talking to a buddy last night and he said it is worse then 08 BC.

Personally I think its a set for player collectors. They love the refractors and making rainbows. It should do well.

By player breakdown and comparison that is what he has said.

Eesh. I haven't been a serious prospector in a couple year, but I know that list is not tantalizing. Are the first two guys those Indians the Pirates "recruited?"

I did a rudimentary checklist analysis about a week ago -- copied and pasted from the old thread:

AUTOS

Tier 1
Hanson
Viciedo

Tier 2
Marrero (has an auto already in 07 Bowman's Best I believe, which puts him on the lower tier)
Santana (08 Sterling auto won't hurt too much I don't think)
Brett Anderson
Freeman (1st chrome auto)

Tier 3
Sulbaran
Chris Johnson

BASE

Tier 1
Dan Hudson

Tier 1a because they're not on the same level as Hudson
Mauricio Robles
Luis Exposito

Tier 2

Wily Peralta
Alexander Torres
Wilmer Font
Denny Almonte
Eric Farris
Starlin Castro

Tier 3

Terrell Allimon
Bryan Price
Brad Dydalewicz
Matt Mitchell (for now...TJ surgery sucks)
Freddy Galvis
Danny Carroll
Richard Castillo
Aaron King
Bryan Augenstein (although he may have MLB RC this year too)
Delvi Cid
Taylor Harbin
Clayton Cook
Moises Sierra

These are the guys who do not previously have cards.

Actually, that list is a bit bigger unless you are counting products such as EE, Contenders, etc. In my opinion, those are not MLB licensed cards and would be considered XRC or whatever.

I think that it will still hurt the value of some of them. Austin Jackson's EEE outsells his Chrome auto. David Price's comes close and it is an insert which hurts it's value. Gordon Beckham's EEE comes close to his chrome auto and both are the same year.

Ouch

On a side note, I can't believe that people continue to throw money at chrome products every year without doing any research on what the checklist contains. (this isn't a knock on you Mike just a general issue I see brought up every year).

Banks, Delgado, and Marte were cut.... ::facepalm::

Freddy Galvis is AAAA at BEST. He will probably never make the majors.

Probably true of most of the guys on the third tier. I was grasping to throw more than 10-12 names out there from the base checklist.

This year's auto checklist is already by far better than last year's. Also, I think the chrome checklist has a ton of sleepers in it. And trust me, I do my research each year on chrome which is why I waited for the price to come crashing down on last year's chrome to bust a case and ended up doing very well on making a profit.

It may be better, but it is less attractive to some because it's full of prospects that already have cards, and to take it a step further, BC cards.

Last year was Zimmermann, Lars, Villalona, and Romine to go with Schafer, A-Jax, and Beltre who already had cards. It was the SIZE of the auto checklist that killed the product.

This year there is overall better quality players in the autos, but all the good ones already have BC cards.

But I still have my 2 boxes incoming :) (for me, thats quite a bit)

I would like to thank each and everyone of you who WONT be breaking any this year as that leaves far less competition for me and my fellow breakers.

The auto list is half the size of lst years meaning less commons and a better chance of landing the best/ better autos.

Your friend is complaining about the product. He MUST be on these boards.

I remmeber people belly aching about the 2008 Bowman with BC auto checklist saqying those are all second year cards. True, but FIRST BC AUTOS they were and how have those preformed?

Does Luis Exposito have a 2008 auto from Threads? Yes but it wont matter if he becomes "good" (notice I didnt write "star") because of the team he's with.
His 2009 BC card will SELL for around $10 if this happens. Brandon Moss anyone?

All you need are a FEW base BC rookies to make it. Add in a solid BC auto list and you have a realy good product, especially considering todays lackluster product lineup.

Bottom line. Do your homework and decide for youself, dont be a sheep if you are going for a case.
I dont mean to sound harsh but each and every BC product theres a post exactly like this
