What do you think these packs will sell for once they hit? 30 bucks?

Odds for an Auto #/50 - 1:5.3
Odds for a Red #/25 - 1:3.6

Overall Odds for an insert: 1:2.2

I'd say that the packs are going to sell for a ton of money!

Honestly, I really don't have a problem with the mass breakers, I too enjoy their fruitful labor (I have about 300 Catricala Chrome rcs). My problem is with the way the system is ran. If you are only going to give out 10,000 redemption packs, put a limit on how many people can get. To appease the mass breakers, make it something like 50 packs (that's what, six cases?). That way, you can ensure that at least 200 people are going to receive packs. The way it is currently set up, we all know one person who is going to get roughly 5% of the entire print run. And again, I don't have a problem with him getting that, if I was in his shoes I would expect the same. But in the future, I think Topps could do a better job of spreading the wealth. I am a firm believer in the greater good, and sharing is caring philosophies.

Great minds about 50 pack limit, see my post on page 1

If I were Topps I wouldn't have done anything different.

Now next time Topps offers such a promotion, everyone will order and bust as much as they can right away hoping to get something while supplies last -- making pre-orders go through the roof.

Alternating availability is a great strategy to sell cards. Topps has employed similar strategies with great success in the past.

I don't think it will have this effect at all. If you're going to add value to a product like this it effects how much Joe Collector buys, not the mass breaker.

Joe Collector doesn't pre-order, because he doesn't want a whole case. And because he only wants 2-3 boxes from his LCS, it doesn't really effect how much his LCS pre-orders. Now Joe doesn't have a ton of time on his hands, so he trickles in within a week of release. Still plenty of sheen on the product. BAM!!! screwed out of his value added...

See where this 'no-limit' strategy doesn't help your typical hobby shop?

I don't think Topps honestly expected these packs to be redeemed out in five days. They probably figured they had at least 2-4 weeks for these wrappers to trickle in. OH well, the more angry rejected collectors, the better the impetus for improvement.

Does anyone else wonder about the wisdom of "Value Added" redemptions on one of the Best-selling products anyway?

I very rarely rip wax so I have no Horse in this race, but I would think Topps would be better served doing a program like this for some of the High-end, slower-selling products that come out later in the Year like Sterling or Products like it...

Meh. They tweeted I believe a few days before release that they thought it would be completed by the beginning of this week. I think they know roughly how much is ripped by mass breakers early on or at least have an idea and can gauge it on that.

Exactly. They needed a program like this last year for dog products like Topps Lineage and Bowman Platinum.

another somewhat related question. Now that the wrappers are worthless, just how low will hobby boxes (non jumbos) go?

They could have offered a free box of Lineage if you sent in a box worth of Lineage wrappers and it still wouldn't help that piece of crap. I was so excited for that set when I first read about it, and it turned out to be one of the worst of the year.

Everyone knew this would go fast; hell everyone here knew it (or you should have). Thus a ton of eBay wrapper auctions, btw many I bet will see charge backs.

To be fair Topps could have set a date and then randomly distributed the packs. Big breakers would still have made out well due to the higher number of entries when compared to the small collector. This also would have allowed box sales to remain hot for a longer period. Even a 1-month date would have afforded customers at Brick and Mortar store an opportunity; yes they had a shot but a VERY limited one.

Those who ever able to get boxes ASAP and the secondary market will both benefit; collectors with no LCS that are forced to buy on-line are left out. A little more thought and effort could have gone a long way.

Maybe they will make an undisclosed promotion for the late senders, and they get a bronze 5 card pack that lasts for the whole year..

Like 2012 Bowman "needed" this to sell out of 2012 Bowman. If anything, Topps is stupid as this will now leave a negative taste in collectors mouths. If you wanna employ tactics, shouldn't effort be put forth to boost a product that would sit on shelves? Bowman has not hat that problem in the past few years.

I think Topps did all they could by announcing this promotion before release, If they tried to limit the number a person could get people would just use multiple addresses and names. They could send 50 from home, 50 from work, 50 in wife's name, 50 in Jr's name...

The best thing I can think of is treat anyone over the 10,000 as an NPN and ship out random cards with a note thanking them for participating in the wrapper redemption.
