I'm sure everyone's heard the news by now, but if you haven't, Roy is retiring due to lack of cartilage in both knees.

I've been a Blazers fan all my life - I was 11 years old when they shocked the Sixers. I've suffered through horrendous draft picks, gut-wrenching losses in the Finals against Detroit and Chicago and that awful 4th-quarter meltdown against the Lakers, and the Jail Blazers. I really thought we were turning the corner when Roy, Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge were drafted. Talent still mattered, but a player's character was heavily weighed as well.

Brandon Roy was everything I could have wanted in a "face of the franchise". Fantastic player, and by all accounts a fantastic person. I went through quite a few comments in the "conversation" below the story on ESPN, and I couldn't find a single negative, ******* comment left by the users there. Those conversation areas are usually cesspools, but not in this case. That's a testament to the impact he left in his too-short 5-year career.

Brandon, thanks for the memories. Sad to see him go, but he's making the right move.

btw, speaking of Oden: I still haven't seen him and Gar Heard in the same room.
