Spending money on memorabilia or collectibles is supposed to be its own reward. That these things are worth serious money and can be subjects of speculation is a bonus but like any other financial venture have various risks. One of those risks is that the subject is a human being and can have human failings, physical or mental. If he had been catastrophically injured, or just started to suck, it isn't news. Even though he's already dodged one bullet on a technicality and there's been rumors about his PED involvment constantly after that, this "tragedy" is apparently a surprise to people.

case in point of someone making a big investment with hopes of huge future returns. If he's your favorite player why should PED's change that honestly? I'm so sick of hearing the pissing and moaning of people who find out their player used. I knew Canseco was juicing all the way back in the 80's and as long as he put on the show that made me tune in I was more than fine with it(and so was MLB for that matter). If you idolize these people IMO you need to get a grip on reality... they are entertainers nothing more. Their lives off the field are nothing to idolize or envy.. many of them have more personal problems than your average american.

From a card/hobby perspective, these disgraces provide opportunities to find cards that would ordinarily not have been available to fill sets.

Has taken a HUGE hit, worth fractions of what they were.

That is true. I spent ALOT on my mcgwire collection. And i know i have more then 15k into Mac. Yes it took a HUGE hit , but i have collected him because he is my all time favorite. Not because i was looking for a return when it came time to sell. A silver lining in it is that it has enabled me to add pieces that never would have surfaced pre 2005. There's a difference between collecting for investment purposes or collecting simply because you are a fan.

All I could think about was how much work I have to do in my basement for my Kershaw stuff now that I have seen this... my basement sucks!!

Your not the only one. Felt like I let my collection down seeing this.

I feel the way to stop this is a lifetime ban for the first offense. And the brewers should just void his contract and release him.
