Just say no to Beltran

not crazy about it but we've got to get more output out of our OF. it's atrocious right now and Hinske is much better as a spot starter and the best clutch pinch hitter in baseball.

atrocious?

dude, check the defensive range

Why do you think the pitchers look so good? That outfield covers an absolute ton of ground. Doubles become outs, I've seen it happen this season more than any.

be PATIENT with heyward

PATIENT

yes atrocious offensively - outside of Prado

Schaefer batting 230
McLouth 227
and Heyward 224

OBP ain't exactly great;

Defensively, while more than serviceable, I can't see any of these guys winning gold gloves.

Dude, it's all about range

Two guys with REALLY good range and Heyward with plus range

That means more outs and less extra base hits.

Schafer is what he is, McLouth is wha the is. I'd be SHOCKED if heyward hit .224 the rest of the year.

Comon man, Beltran won't help ANYTHING in Atlanta.

Look I don't care if it's Beltran or somebody else but we gotta get another OF bat to make a run at the Phillies. Range ain't making up the difference in a bunch of 220 hitting.

Prado, assuming Chipper is back which is not a guarantee, is the only guy that should be starting in the OF. granted Schaefer has made some things happen and I like him a million times more than Nate who is just there because of his ridiculous contract.

I'd be shocked if Heyward doesn't end up on the DL again. We've tried Matt Young, etc.

Our starting pitching is good but it ain't going to beat Philly.

Pitching and defense will beat Philly. Hudson and Lowe are groundball pitchers. Jurrjens pitches to contact. I'm confident the infield and even more confident with an outfield of Prado/McClouth, Schafer/McClouth, and Heyward. Big Red just needs to work on his command and the defense will just need to be average when he's on the mound. If Prado, Chipper, and Heyward are in the lineup and healthy, the Braves will be fine. They don't have to hit 10 home runs a game to beat Philly. Just play smart baseball and win the 1-0 games.

If we don't beat the phillies, we just don't beat the phillies.

This young team is building, and I'd hate to go after Carlos Beltran or some other over paid player who won't really help all that much.

If a trade is made, do it young.

Completely agree! The Phillies top-notch players are getting old (Howard, Halladay, Rollins, Ibanez, Oswalt) I say Braves should keep there young talents though. I would rather win 2 or more than only 1.

without that out field range

Uggly playing a suprisingly good defensive 2b

Freddie being amazing defensively

Alex Gonzalez being near the top of the league at ss

Jair wouldn't have the numbers he has.

I love how arguments are made about our outfield hitting. Two of those guys are under 25, really, come on! ::facepalm::

We need a bat but Carols Beltran and his knee better stay away.

gilmo, while I agree they are are all studs defensively, I think you're putting too much emphasis on it. It's a pretty well-known concept that defensive statistics have been "overrated" over time. The corner OF's need to produce more offensively. Actually, I think the Braves are fine right now. Hell, we're 17 games over and have the second best pitching staff in the NL. definitely don't want beltran though. not sure who else is even on the market.

exactly my point on the defense - look I don't want to just rent a player for a top prospect but I think we are in a position where we can afford to make a move.

it's important that we get some of these younger guys like Freeman, Heyward, Kimbrel, Hanson, JJ some playoff experience. I don't know if we get there without another bat. and if we do we will just fall apart like last year.

We have the cornerstone of a great team with McCann, starting pitching, Venters and Kimbrel, great infield, clutch pinch hitting in Hinkse.

Beltran for Vizcaino

You'd wanna trade Beltran for someone who's Gunna be a reliever? I'd say we can get a little more out that. The fact that arodys is getting shut down ( I'm going to consider getting put in the pen shut down) again this year is saying nothing more then he just can't pitch a full season...

Comon man, Beltran won't help ANYTHING in Atlanta.

Mclouth has horrible defensive range in the outfield and a terrible arm.

ugggggh - Diaz was the worst

Yea, I guess a 162 game average with the Braves that looks like this is pretty terrible: (I know it's not a complete line, but you get the idea)

BA HR RBI SB
.305 11 57 9
