It's always slightly embarassing to find stuff in the basement that I should have thrown out a long time ago. So why not let the rest of you stroll down memory lane with me? Without further adieu, my Wheaties box collection...
This is the one that started the modern era of regional Wheaties boxes celebrating team champions. I guarantee that everybody's parents/grandparents/aunts & uncles in Minnesota has a couple of these tucked away in the attic.
Then four years later, they did another one for the Twins...
When Kirby Puckett retired, he got his own box...
Here's a nice one from 2001. Two-sided box of Kirby and Dave Winfield.
Of course, they were not limited to baseball. Regional Vikings box...
Here's a few for Packer fans...
Think I got this one locally, so I'm not sure how regional some boxes actually were.
I know there are several boxes with McGwire, Ripken, Griffey, Jr., and others that were nationally distributed, but the regional stuff was what drove the Wheaties box craze in the 1990's.
Oh, and this guy helped too.
Wheaties didn't have an exclusive on celebrational boxes. Here's Tony...
Kellogg's also had several Dream Team basketball boxes that were nationally on the shelves, like this one...
And of course, Wheaties manages to pull me back in...
I actually have a bunch more football and basketball, but I'll save them for their respective pages. A lot of those I have collapsed for easier storage. Why don't I collapse them all? Man, I don't know--aren't the Jordan boxes still worth something?
Actually, reprinting the covers in a card format would be a cool insert in the boxes, especially since there are no food inserts anymore.
There's bound to be some of you with a few of these sitting in a box somewhere. What have you got?
Oh, and one more, just because it was a small box and fits inside the bigger boxes.
Oh, yeah. I ate 'em, too. Tasted like Cap'n Crunch as I recall.
