Isn't it possible for UD to keep making the same sets, just college based?

Sure some collector's wouldn't like it, but why not a college themed SPA, Ultimate, Exquisite...

If UD has to go the NCAA-only route, they picked a good year to do it for you, at least, with Clausen and Tate coming out. You should have some pretty nice stuff to go after.

I wouldn't complain :)

I would think something like that would actually help to add some value too. Take a player like Tebow for example. If he doesn't pan out, an Exquisite patch/auto RC in an NFL uni would drop in price. But an Exquisite patch/auto RC in his Florida uni would still be highly sought after even if he busts in the NFL.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree 100%. I would LOVE to see Exquisite have college patches and the players pictured in their college unis. It'd be like a high end Press Pass type of set, that'd be awesome.

At what point do collectors need to start getting concerned over this impacting collection value? A lot of us have some high dollar cards from the likes of UD. If this goes long term what impact if any does it have on the high end stuff we already own?

This is why we all must remember that in the end this is really just a hobby! I have always said that we must collect what we like because if the value drops out of our collection we will have to live with what is left and it certainly seems this could possibly happen. I have nothing in my collection that I feel I overpaid for and would be upset if the value dropped out because I never looked at my collection as an investment but just a hobby. I enjoyed my hobby before and I will continue to enjoy it with no regrets. Only maybe now I can start purchasing some of the cards I never would have touched previously because the cost was just too high!

I think its time for us collectors to re-focus on what we are doing and not be baited into buying the newest exclusive patch piece numbered to 10 when we know the same thing will be issued again somewhere down the road. The card companies are being re-focused and we all need to do the same.

I agree, I could care less what the BV of a card that I really like has. This is a hobby for me, I don't buy cards for investment purposes.

Sad day for football collectors.

Sad era for card collectors in general. And dealers like myself - it's rough when everyone's used to choices & suddenly they don't have any. It shows how completely out of touch the leagues are with all of us. They are clueless about cards & collecting. ::facepalm::

You can't be serious. :o

The leagues aren't out of touch with us...upper deck was out of touch with reality when they thought they could counterfeit hundreds and hundreds of thousands of cards and get away with it. They were out of touch when they thought they could spit in the face of MLB and completely disregard their signed contract with them.

The leagues are trying to protect their fans. Good for them!!!

Get a clue everybody...upper deck should no longer be in business after what they have been pulling for years now. How can any of you trust them any more? I don't believe for 1 second that all their memorabilia, (in cards or not), is authentic. It doesn't fit upper deck's MO any more.

Makes me wonder if all the outstanding redemptions will ever be fulfilled. My gut tells me no.

Have had a Mystery Cuts exchange sitting with them since July of last year, but can't imagine that it is a priority for them to get those out to the collectors. :(

I agree it could do well. Especially if the lack of the NFL license drops the SRP a little bit - I think collector's would still buy something like Exquisite.

My question though is if what Sports Card Radio said is true, will UD even bother. Seemed he was saying UD barley breaks even on these these types of products, so not sure if they'll even bother to come out with these types of high-end releases. I suppose they may feel compelled to to simply stay relevant in the hobby, guess we'll have to wait and see.

This leaves the door wide open for a Topps return. Although I would imagine we wont see any of their products for a while due to the timing.

Well atleast it happened before the draft and that should give time for Topps to get all the autos/GU etc needed from the rookies.

I would expect Topps to pony up the funds for Upper Deck's license.

Could be, and I'd rather have Topps Chrome than nothing.

Yo tambien. Chrome > 99% of Panini's crap.

The UD facebook is getting a lot of this copy/paste:

We're not going anywhere. We have hockey, collegiate sports, entertainment properties, a strong memorabilia business and more. We have deals in place with the highest profile athletes in sports like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, LeBron James and more. We will continue to compete and produce the highest-quality and most innovative collectibles in the market

could it be that the only on card Tim Tebow autograph will be from Press Pass this year? Which would you want,
on card PP or stickered Panini?

I'm waiting on one too. The thing that really p*sses me off is that they managed to pull together enough cuts to release an entire new set based around cut sigs. Makes sense though, especially in light of this - keep pounding out new product and to heck with taking care of the existing customers holding redemptions.

What I love about this is when UD left me off the ballot for their online awards they commented that the bulk of my site concentrates on unlicensed cards. Oh the irony.

Now we know why they had all the upper deck awards not to have awards but to give away gifts to communities so that they would think how generous Upper Deck is an continue to buy there unlicensed products. Lol does this mean that there Football cards won't be considered Rookie Cards any more because they wont have an NFL license. Kind of the same way that In The Game products in hockey aren't true rookies because they dont have a NHL License. If so Upper Deck just lost tons of collectors and resellers

"Never" is a long time.

I'm confident this rule will change as time goes on. I believe there will be a time when the first card of someone will be more sought after than what's defined today as a "true rookie" card. I could be wrong. Time will tell.

Upper Deck needs to get back in the good graces of its buyers. On Card Autos, NO QC problems, No Redemptions, Less products coming out. Maybe even lower the prices a tad. its ironic really...donruss loses all their licenses to UD, then gets bought out and gets them all back.
