The Cardinals announced that Troy Glaus had shoulder surgery and will be out for 12 weeks. Obviously Wallace only got a brief taste of AA last year, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him being the Opening Day third baseman. Pujols only had 14 ABs above high A when he made the team in 2001, so it's definitly possible. David Freese could also get a look.

The Riverlands.
They also have Barden at 3B, so who knows lol. I think Wallace needs more development. He blasted through two levels, but in the AFL he couldn't bust through jello.

that would be pretty sweet to see but Tony L is so impatient with young guys

FYI - Brett Wallace has a TON of work to do to stay at 3B.

I doubt the Cardinals would want to start the season with a rookie 3B who needs serious refinement (most notably to his body) to stick at the position. Sure, he has the stick, and the limited results though.

I think Freese will probably end up with it, but I think Wallace will be given every opportunity.

why would he get every opportunity. Rasmus hit very well last spring and walked quite a bit and he was sent down for what I truly feel are lesser players. I do not think Skip should be up over him and at the time Ludwick in my eyes wasn't at all what he became last year.

There you go.

There are about 5 options that TLR would put at 3B ahead of letting Wallace play there on Opening Day.

They wouldn't want his arbitration clock to start, and Tony doesn't seem to trust anyone under the age of 35 not named Albert Pujols to do much of anything it seems like. See Motte and Perez.

The excuses that they have been giving for not calling up Razzy already is they don't want his arbitration clock to start. I can't see them just changing their thinking on that with Brett in just a short amount of time. They have other options to hold the fort down while Glaus is out.

Wallace is not going to start the season in the majors that would be crazy. If he absolutely tears it up for the first half and Glaus doesn't come back for whatever reason and STL 3B suck it up I could see him after the all star break if they are in contention and have a dire need. That's a lot of if's.

yup, the way the Ray's dealt with Longoria at the start of last season will probably set a precedence for all rooks at this point.

Glaus isn't the quickest healer. I would bet this hampers him all season.
