Brewers offered Fielder a contract extension?

My dad told me tonight that the Brewers offered fielder $20 mil/year for 5 years and turned it down. I didn't hear of such a thing and cannot find any info on it. He said he heard it a few days ago. Anyone else hear anything?

Edit: Just found an article that says Fielder/Boras turned down a 5 year $100 mil offer. Surprised it wasn't streamline info.

"Fielder and agent Scott Boras turned down approximately $100 million over five years from the Brewers, so any club interested in trading for him would not reasonably expect to get an extension done. But keeping Fielder until free agency and receiving only draft picks as compensation doesn't make a lot of sense for the Brewers, and his trade value would only plummet by next July 31."

Never heard of that but thats 5years/100 million.

I assume the only reason he would turn it down is because he wants more than 5 years, no?

I would imagine hes looking at 7 years/140 or so.

Could be, the article didn't go into much detail and that's the first I have heard of it. He had a fairly down year for his standards and I couldn't see offering him much more or a longer contract unless there was a clause if he dropped some weight. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. I am betting the Yankees will land him in some way or another.

I remember reading sometime around midseason that the Brewers talked to Boras about an extension for Fielder but the numbers were not close to matching. I believe it was reported that he wanted a contract comparable to Teixeira's (8yr 180 million).

Contracts will be coming down, not going up or matching stupid contracts.

You would think so but Boras always seems to find a sucker.

There is no way I would give Prince any more than 5 years.
His weight scares me and I dont think he will last long enough to be anything but a DH in 5 years.

And since hes in the NL, a $20 million/year contract with 2-3 years left for a player on the downslide of his career will be untradeable (well maybe the Yankees would take it).

Agreed, but I don't think Rickie likes it here all that much either. If they don't do something about the starting pitching then I couldn't really care less what they do with either of them
