He will be 36/37 at the end of this deal, which positions himself well to stay with the O's for the rest of his career....

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3921371

The Orioles have a good mix of youth/veterans, but they still play in the most dominant division in baseball, and I don't think they will be contending for the Wild Card anytime past August 31st.

Didn't it come out that he was a PED guy? Why no hate towards him?

he injected once. he admitted to it. yes he was guilty b/c he did it once.

did it have any effect on his stats? i highly doubt it. no reason to put him in the same club as Arod, etc.

We know he used those special contact lenses because Nike made such a huge deal about it. Shouldn't those be considered Performance Enhancers as well?

To me, this is why the PED blame game gets so touchy and silly. He used. They benefited him. He should draw the same exact scrutiny as the other players. If he doesn't, then no one should. You can't pick and choose who you want to chastise for the exact same "sin".

Come on Brian Roberts is not even in the same league as A_rod to the media. Arod is known as the best in the game and he used much bigger story than Brian Roberts.

What does that have to do with it? I am only saying that is how the players should be treated...fairly. From the greatest to the least should be treated the same.

Basically what I am saying is most people don't care about Brian Roberts. Millions of people care about Arod.

I can't disagree. Doesn't make it right though. And that is all I am saying.

Come on guys.. B-Rob is a class act. He was man enough to admit he was wrong and had a sincere apology. He is in no way, in the same boat as A-Rod.

Injected it once...yep.

By the way, I've got a bridge I'm looking to sell.

Back to talking about the actual deal cause reading about steroids, PEDs and how A-Rod is the anti-christ makes me wanna slam my head in the hood of a car.

Brian Roberts is an awesome player and I think this was a great move by the O's. I don't watch him enough (only really when the O's and Yanks square off), but he seems like he has good team leadership skills. Him and Markakis should form a strong nucleus that will help build a solid team for years to come.

are you implying the ole saying "if everyone jumped off a bridge" routine?

awful attempt at humor

Awesome. I'm stoked he's staying!!
Roberts for 4.
Markakis for 6.

Talented youth in the wings for a few years to come, i'm VERY excited!!

*Gibbons was the devil in that situation. Roomie who peer pressured B-Rob to try it. B-Rob realized after trying it that it wasn't something he wanted to do. THat was 2003 if I'm not mistaken. He was one of the first ones to come out when the Mitchell Report was published to come clean. He's got my respect.

No, he's saying that, if you think Roberts only used once, you're naive. The "bridge" reference means that if you think that way, he's got a bridge that he can claim to own and sell it to you, because you're so naive.

It's an old saying.

Thank you for the explanation Hive as it was indeed my point.

To think that Brian Roberts only injected PEDs once is incredibly naive. If someone is going to cross the "steroid bridge" (sorry I had to include 'bridge' somehow) and use it once therefore not seeing any benefit is crazy.

I'm not claiming Roberts to be a habitual user/abuser but the old "I didn't inhale" defense is comical.

Logic dictates that we can't believe a single major leaguer when it comes to talking about steroids, but hey, don't listen to me, I'm a natural pessimist.

I could be naive but probably b/c he's my favorite player today. In the back of my mind I know it's possible but I choose to believe him b/c he's putting up the same quality numbers year after year; they year (2003) he claimed to have injected himself he hit .270 with 5 HR's in over 400 AB's.
