Sure we all know Brodeur tied the record on Saturday but are his numbers accurate? Brodeur has 27 wins that he got after winning shootouts. Roy never played in a shootout and would end up with a tie at the end of overtime when he played. So that is 27 wins Brodeur got that with the old rules would have been ties and not recorded as a win.
The shooter that wins the scoring goal in a shootout does not get credit for a game-winning goal so is it fair that a goalie gets a recorded wins in his records.
Should there be an asterisk by this record? or a note saying Brodeur won x amount of games in shootouts?
In an era where players are remembered by stats and numbers should this record be officially recognized in 27 more games?
The NHL actually had talks about this and are un-sure what to do about these records and how shootout wins are counted and if they should be. Players are complaining that goalies are getting the win but the winning scorer does not get the point. Players have even been complaining a bit about it.
