Brook Lopez has been diagnosed with a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, will undergo surgery on Friday and could miss the entire season.

We initially heard that normal recovery time from such a procedure is four to six weeks, but Sports Illustrated's Zach Lowe wrote on Twitter that he was told by a doctor who works with the Lakers that Lopez will need three to four months for healing and rehab, which would basically put him out for the entire season.

Unfortunate for Brook and the Nets. Completely cripples any chance of acquiring Dwight Howard this season, considering Brook Lopez was the main trade chip in the potential deals being thrown around. Who knows if Deron Williams will want to stay at this point, looks to be another disappointing season for the Nets, but anything can happen.
