Assuming Washington takes Harper with the 1st pick which is pretty much a given at this point. How long will it take to iron out a contract? Are we looking at an Arizona Fall League debut like we had with Strasburg or could he make it in time for a Short-A or Rookie league apperance?

He will be signing 1 second before the deadline. I doubt he will be appearing in the AFL.

I don't know what the rules are in baseball - if they were to go to Harper's representatives now and talk dollar amounts, is that tampering of any kind? For the team with the 1st pick, I feel it shouldn't matter. I believe in the NFL it's fine.

personally, i dont think the nats are going to even take him. Another 8 figure bonus,
I just dont think they would do that. But whoever takes him he'll start to sign the contract
at about 11:59 on deadline day.

There's no way they don't take him and don't sign him. There will be a lot of hypotheses in the press about his agent's demands, and in the end they'll sign him on the last day with a bonus probably 4% more than Strasburg's, which will be more than made up for in jersey sales when they are both in the starting lineup in 2011.

I'd say Harper's ETA would be late 2012, early 2013.
