Lays the bat parallel to the plate, bends over, picks up two clumps of dirt, smacks the dirt across it hands, rubs hands, and then gets into his stance. He doesnt use batting gloves but this is something he could be doing on the on deck circle.
The Braves instructed Yunel Escobar to stop whistling and picking up dirt while on the field and tossing it behind his back after his AA season after opposing teams complained about it. It didn't sit well with his own manager Jeff Blauser and was one of the many reasons Blauser was let go.....
Also, Harper is a terrible a catcher. He has only thrown out 5 of 29 base runners and he doesn't set up very well for his pitchers. If am the Nationals, I try to sign him quickly. Send him to Instructs in early October and ask Ivan if he will come in and help for two weeks. There are a lot of rumors that is why the Nationals wanted Ivan around to begin with.... Before the end of Instructs, the Nationals should know if he can stay at catcher.
It's been said he will have a better and clearer path to the Majors if he plays RF.
