Been getting into basketball a little recently. Picked this card up earlier today and was hoping for some thoughts on Bynum and the card itself.

Nice card! He will be overshadowed by Kobe, Odom, and Gasol as long as they are there. Maybe if he gets traded somewhere else, shows what he can do, and doesnt get injured the value will go up. That used to be a pretty big card a year or 2 ago, but he was often injured.

I think he'll be bigger than Odom pretty soon. He's just 23, and has continued to get better. I'm expecting big things from him in the next couple of seasons.

I'd definitely diversify with other players if you are investing in him. I agree with all the positives with him: talent, age, city, team success. However, there are big time injury risks that go along with him as well as him being overshadowed by Kobe and Pau. The other issue is what kind of numbers you really expect from him. Is he ever going to be a 20/10 guy? Maybe the talent is there, but injuries and teammates might prevent that. I don't think there aren't many 15/8 guys that hold a lot of value.

The injuries are always a concern, but at just 23 years old, I really think he's a ways a way from what he can be. Not going to put a ton of money in him (this is very possibly it) but I think the potential is there. I also think within 2-3 seasons, they'll need him to be a bigger part of the offense as the other guys get older.

Personally I don't trust young big men with a history of joint injuries, especially knees. However, you obviously see something I don't that creates more potential for increase than decrease. I completely agreed with your Rondo opinions, but I'm not 100% on board with this one. Big men generally don't get the hobby love even when they're superstars, and I don't see superstar potential with him. I think there are a ton of young guards that I'd much rather invest in. If I was investing I'd be all over Curry and Evans.

Good luck with it though.

For me it has a lot to do with the fact that (assuming I am remembering correctly) the card his been $300 during the season in the last couple of years. The Lakers should challenge for the Finals again, and as long as he puts up solid numbers, at his age I think the likelihood of it going back to $300 is pretty high, and it could possibly jump more if he really breaks out.

I love Bynum, but my only concern is that he'll get traded and his value will tank. If that doesn't happen, I think there's potential to increase in value. I've picked up a few myself.

Have you seen anything to indicate they'd trade him? I haven't, but I don't follow the Lakers as closely as some.

The price is going through the roof lol. Hopefully he pays off for both of us.

I'm also in the market for a Durant, though that one may be a bit tougher.

Bynum was mentioned in a sign and trade deal to get Bosh. I believe Toronto was the one who turned it down because of Bynum's contract and injury concerns.

I'd also have traded him for Bosh, though that's obviously not a consideration anymore. (Though I do recognize the point that they would consider dealing him.)
