I thought I was the only one! I have busted more packs of 93 Select than any other brand in my entire life. My collecting heyday was in 92-96 or so before I lost interest. I have all of the 93 select insert sets, but the Rookie Stars (red dufex) are buried somewhere at my parents house.

You can tell I'm a Ripken collector too, notice how he has the biggest screw down out of everyone :)

Nice!! I wouldn't mind putting those 2 sets together someday.

So I found this auction interesting: http://cgi.ebay.com/2001-Cal-Ripken...0713340528?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item3f07c5c270. Mostly because of what it states on the box. "3 Game-Used Memorabilia Cards Per Box; 1 Autographed Card Per Box"

I had never seen one of the black box Glossy sets that were listed this way on the box... knowing I had a opened set lying around somewhere I dug the box out. It read more the way I remembered it "2 Game-Used Memorabilia Cards Per Box". But interestingly enough, this is printed on a black sticker that is stuck onto the box below where "17 - Final Season" is printed on the box. So curiosity got the better of me and I peeled the sticker off... "3 Game-Used Memorabilia Cards Per Box; 1 Autographed Card Per Box" is what it said underneath.

So what is the deal with this, did Fleer at one time plan on inserting 3 memorabilia cards and the auto card and then later change their minds? Anyone know the story?

Ah nice, that seller lied to me... How much did he end up selling it to you for?[/quote:xza03lhk]

She lied to me as well, she said it was her son's and he asked her to pull it since he didn't want it sold. She did tell me what offers were coming her way though, so I have an idea of what it went for.

Jonebone & Tuna, I didn't deal with a "she" so I don't know what to say.

Did you 2 contact the seller before or after the auction ended? Just curious.
Either way, why? Why so curious about the offers?

The one that is listed with 4 days left is already near what I paid. ;)

It's no different than asking someone a price point to see market value; it's also worthwhile to determine if it will be coming back to market. I'm sure we've all done similar. Obviously no one tried to undercut you so there's no need to get defensive.

When I watch you Ripken collectors, I'm glad to be a Thomas collector. We play well together and share info to help one another meet our collecting goals.

I recommend working with each other rather than against each other. We're all grown men collecting cardboard here.

That's exactly what I did. When I noticed the second one on eBay, I checked completed listings and saw the one in red. So I messaged the seller asking if she sold it outside of eBay and what type of offers she received to gauge market interest. Look at my join date, I've barely been here two months and don't have the luxury of remembering past sales to determine value. That was all I wanted to know.

I doubt I'll go after the one on eBay currently, as there's still thousands of cards I need and this one is no more special to me than any other /50. Once I go several months to a year without one, I might value it much more.

I'm more than willing to help out fellow Ripken collectors whenever I can, but if I want a card then I'll set the snipe that I want. I don't intend to step on the toes of others, but if you've been looking for the card a lot longer than I have, your snipe should be higher anyway. As long as we're all having fun that's all that really matters.

I was curious about the offers as I had a bid in on the card and then the auction was canceled. The seller then lied to me saying that the card wasn't for sale because he was selling for his kid, but this one wasn't supposed to be for sale, at which time I made an offer. Dumb seller though, I have a feeling they left a bit of money on the table. ::facepalm::

Figured as much. Needed to upgrading your numbering or what?
Seller was ok. He got a good offer he was happy with and I finally landed a QL for the PC.
So both parties are happy.

Bunchofbull, it's all good. Ripen collectors ain't all bad. Look how long the thread is.

Wouldn't have minded a different #'d one. But always on the lookout for low #'d Ripken cards, so figured I'd put the first bid in just in case no one else noticed it. Of course that would be like driving a Ferrari around and having no one notice...

Really witty Chris. As a respected member of the Ripken community at FCB and elsewhere it's easy for you to say that from the green side of the pasture, but, the truth of the matter is, there are a lot of awesome Ripken collectors who aren't part of the clique, yet have a wealth of knowledge to share. Snarky comments like that are a prime example of the problem.

So claiming that one group of collectors is better than another is not "snarky" and/or "part of the problem"? There are plenty of player collector threads online. I would know better than to go in another player collector thread and claim that collectors of my guy are superior to collectors of their guy in any way. Either way, kudos on your work on the 1990 Topps variations. It has helped a lot of folks in the collecting community.

If that's the way you took it, then you're just looking for a reason to argue.
Looks pretty clear what was meant in his post. I'll dumb it down a little if it helps. I don't think he was saying that Thomas collectors are "better". Just because we collect a better player doesn't make us better (kidding-kidding). ;)

Stop acting like little kids & act a little more like adults.
You (as a group) will all benefit by acting civilized & helping each other.

Hey guys, quick question for you. I had substantial interest in this item and the seller and I are quite close, but upon closer inspection I may not want this copy. It's a holoview red, but the die-cut seems off center to me. Left top looks longer than the right top, which I'm guessing would hurt this at least 1 or 2 on the grading scale. I asked the seller and he claims its just the angle of the picture but I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

It's just the angle.
You don't see OC being issues with these type of cards.
Here's mine.

Image won't show up for me? Either way I'll go ahead and see if the seller accepts my offer, thanks for the quick replies.
