Maine of course......
Not to hickjack this thread but there are lots of ways to support the troops. My son just organized a school project of sending "stuff" to the troops. His school gathered candy, snacks, books/mags (clean of course), toiletries, cards, stationery, etc....and they are sending this out tomorrow. It helps that my brother-in-law is in Baghdad and we have a connection to send things to but I bet everyone knows of someone who could use a "taste of home."

Also, read about Curt Schillings recent visit to the tropps here:

http://38pitches.weei.com/general/uso-t ... /#more-238

He actually spent some time with my brother-in-law :)

Being a former military member and a military veteran who has a mental disability I find this "brute force" tactic used by Spike last night to be quite disgracefull. I know it was a free show and it was used to help the troops, but the way that it was constantly ramed down your throat and the psychological ploy they were using by saying you arent human or an American was pretty bad as well. I agree with the above poster that there are better ways to utilize your genorisity by supporting your troops. Support your local USO, send personalized care packages (these do a wonder of good and many troops will actually send letter back to you, I know I did), or at least visit your local recruiting office/USO/VA to ask for other ways to help.

Believe it or not, there are alot o folks who do things to support the troops and dont need to answer your public challenge, some folks just do it with less fanfair and dont need to be public about it.

I will agree that during the fights last night it was just silly how much "plastic patriotism" was being spewed. Did everyone forget that "we" already support the troops through taxes? No need for a guilt trip.

Do I think it is a good cause? Sure. I think there are a lot of good causes out there and I also think that in this economy a lot of "good causes" will be forgotten or passed over. And even in a good economy things are passed over.

Well put Kutzy. Being prior service myself I can also say that random care packages were amazing to get. Just to know that a perfect stranger took the time to send you something was very special.

Having been on the receiving end at one time, my wife and I now make sure that we send out atleast one care package to atleast one soldier each month....especially during the holidays..we try to do the best we can. We send magazines, toothbrushes, toothpaste, packs of baseball/football cards, pens/paper, cans of cashews....just random stuff that someone would enjoy getting. I try to recall the things I loved getting the most when I was in. During the holidays we have my wifes cousin transfer a video message onto DVD and send that along with a "Xmas package". My wife and I simply send a heartfelt "Thank you" and "Happy Holiday" message on the DVD.

We've been doing the "Adopt a soldier" through Soldiers Angels. http://www.soldiersangels.com/

Sportscardtheory - Think before you speak. And I'm about at my limit with you calling people loser, tool, ****** and whatnot. The point is not that we HAVE to because our government won't. This is not a "political" action. It's called concern, caring...doing something for someone else because it's the right thing to do. Some soldiers have 0 family...none. They get no letters, no packages...nothing. It has nothing to do with the government.

Until you know what it's like to go through daily mail call and get nothing...especially on the holidays....please don't spew out negative remarks about sending things to soldiers.

Thsi is not something I am going to debate with you. You apparently have a LOT of growing up to do.

This is what it says on the page the OP posted "The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a national leader in supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and their families, is launching an important new effort to serve our military community. The Fund is designing and building the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, an advanced facility dedicated to research, diagnosis and treatment of military personnel and veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI), and we need your help…."

My whole point was why are WE forced to pay for these things when it should be all taken care of by our government, you know, the ones who send them off to wars and aid in getting them sick and don't even have the decency to make sure all their medical bills are taken care of??? I'm don't know WHAT you are posting in this. I never said ANYTHING about sending things to soldiers... and I will say whatever I WANT to you. When you tell someone to "think before you open your big mouth", THAT is being an a-hole and you WILL be called on it. You REALLY need to stop seeing what you WANT to see and pay attention to what is actually there.

What does that have to do with what I posted? You are obviously allowed to think what you want... but to call me out as being unpatriotic is just flat out rude. I never said one word about not loving my country... but I also haven't drank the "terrorist threat" Kool-Aid.
