Can someone explain how this is a $50 card?

Can't say as for the exact year but I can't count on both hands and feet how many times I have won a Bagwell numbered to /25 for around $3.

Ive bought a few auto's #'d /25 recently for around 12 apiece. Base or base parallels have been commanding more than auto's/gu in different sets. Im not sure if its people thinking these wont be listed as often as an auto or gu or not. I usually lean towards this approach.

This right here. There are dozens of parallel/insert cards numbered to 100 or less that I have never seen listed.

True that. But they vary. Big time. Sometimes...I may pay $3. Sometimes it goes over $20. I guess it just depends on what you have available to you as a collector. Me...I get lucky in the fact that I have gotten a ton of great cards from many different offline or non ebay sources. Its always wild to see what some cards go for versus what others do if they are the same print run. Sometimes it makes a lot of sense and sometimes it seems truly random. I myself can be random. I may decide I haven't gotten anything for the Bagwell collection that is substantial in a while and I may bid high on a card I wouldn't normally bid that high on. Somebody else may do the same and now all of a sudden...BOOM! You have a bidding war that looks insane. All over a card that might have gone for a lot less depending on my mood or someone else's.

Amazing how many people are stunned when a card brings great money without and autograph or jersey.
Maybe people do "collect" still?

Interesting. At some point, I had a copy of this card that was the #1 of 100 and sold it in a lot with other serial number cards in a lot. It's a real beauty of a card with some popular 1980s stars.

Oh yes they do. I am living proof of that. But the point is, most of the hobby seems more geared towards autos or GU.

I paid over $600 for a card that has no refractor, no game used material, isn't serially numbered, no autograph, is about 20 years old and its of a player some people (well maybe most) could care less about (Will Clark), so I guess I fall into the collector category. Numbering, game used, all that stuff is overrated. I like those too, but I would much prefer knocking a card off the list I've been searching for, for years, than a new game used autograph card numbered to 5.

Possibly right now. I just don't understand why some people criticize the amount someone else pays for a card.

Sometimes people pay what they do because they are uninformed/victims of hype, gambling or even have too much money. Of course they can also be hard-core collectors. How can anyone always tell which, or what combination is the case?

Eh...I'd say the card you paid that much for was well worth it and really is a true rarity. While not serial numbered, it might as well be.

You can't. And that is why an ebay sale means little to me. If I am in the shop and see one dude pay $40 for an auto'd card and then I see another dude walk in and only pay $10, I know two things have happened. One, the shop owner is a greedy rotten bastard, and too, I also know that one guy knew what the hell he was doing. The other didn't. Or didn't care. Which is why its a good idea to watch your rear end at shows and at shops. If people get the feeling that you won't deal with the BS...they will either be reasonable with you or just ignore you and not want to deal with you.But you can't tell all of that from an ebay perspective. Plus, the prices can be all over the place. What and why a collector pays what they do is about as easy as trying to figure out a woman.
