Can Someone Help Me With This Koufax Auction?

Hi folks. I ran into this auction just now - http://cgi.ebay.com/SANDY-KOUFAX-Au...0694652495?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item19c5ea5a4f It is for a 2000 SP Authentic Koufax black auto. I have this card with the blue auto. I have never seen one with a black auto before.

Is anyone familiar with the black autos? Assuming they are a short print, how short printed are they?

I would be willing to bet that this was originally blue ink. Fading over the years has caused it to look as if it were black ink. I have seen it on other signed cards in the past. Just my opinion.

Hey bud, I have never seen another ink variation on that copy

I swear, I think its just a faded blue ink that looks black now. Lol.

either a faded ink or it was signed after the release of the product possibly?

I was not aware that some of the blue ink could discolor after time. My Koufax auto still looks as blue as the day I got it.

And I"m pretty sure that these cards were not released with an auto on them unless they were backdoored.

Without question faded blue ink. Blue and black inks have a lot of the same pigments; some of the more delicate blue specific pigments fade rather easily, leaving some of the pigments the two colors share behind.

Does exposure to light kickstart this process? I keep my Koufax in a covered box with other cards. Or is my Koufax blue auto destined to turn black over time?

I have to be honest. A black auto on that card would suck. The blue on-card auto goes so well with the rest of the card.

Another vote for FADED BLUE ink.

and Yes, a store display case will destroy an Auto, and pretty quickly, especially if it sits in one spot the whole time. Morons ruined that card...
