Can someone tell me how this guy makes money off his lots?

I see this guy's auctions every now and then. Very eye-appealing.

http://cgi.ebay.com/300-GREAT-BASEBALL- ... 240%3A1308

If you check his buyer feedback, he buys 90% of his super high-end stuff he includes in the lot directly from sellers on ebay. This lot has 300 g/u and autos in it. Even if the winning bidder pays $2000 for the lot at over $6 a card, I don't see how this guy makes money off the lot after what he has paid for cards themselves, fees, shipping, etc.

He must be making money off it somehow b/c he repeatedly does it.

And btw, his Arod Bowman Originals auto is fake that he bought off ebay. The Pujols is real though.

I use to do this before I prospected. If you combine an auction with 20-30 high end autographs or 1/1's and have the rest of the cards be superstar game used jerseys and a few autos, you will make money.

I have had numerous lots that I only had $1000-$1200 go for over $2000. Sounds stupid but it works.

Why did you stop if it was working? Just curious.

I was looking at some of the cards he bought though. There's no way he's only in this for $1200. Especially after the fees. The first 50 cards he has listed he's avg $30 a pop easy...

Interesting, maybe I'll look into that. It's funny, a great way to make money is to buy lots and break them up and sell them individually. Never thought of doing it the other way.

Maybe he gets bored of his cards fast? Hes fairly well off and doesn't mind losing some money?

:) Heh. He's gotta be in this for money. I suppose it works, he keeps doing it. I wonder if it works on different scales. Like if you can start small and work your way up....

I have never done it before... I have been selling individual cards for 5 years, and every time I thought of selling a huge lot, it would take too much of my time writing every single cards in an auction, you know?

I prefer selling individuals myself - I think I make more money, in my opinion...

Some people go around buying Game Used/Autos fairly cheap. Weather they troll forums looking to buy someones old stuff, buy large GU auctions, or just buy from people at shows. They then in turn, throw in a few high end cards and magically you have a 200 card GU/Auto lot. You throw in a $200 card, 10 $25 cards, 24 $10 cards and $160 $2 cards. Total investment is under $1k and you can easily make $1500 a lot. Not to mention you arent paying fees for 200 auctions.

Honestly, because I ran out of money. While I was doing it, I was taking the profits and picking up PC cards. Plus it was right around the time I was starting college and I didn't have 1K-1.2K to drop every month, so I just started up a cheaper prospect alternative.

One of the lots that I had that I sold for $2500 that I only had $1200 in included:

Ted Williams 05 Mirror Black Bat 1/1
Ted Williams 05 Diamond Kings Dual Bat 1/1
Joe Dimaggio 05 SP Legendary Cuts Bat 1/1
Stan Musial Absolute Double Patch/Bat Auto 1/1
Nolan Ryan 05 UD HOF Auto 1/1
Cal Ripken 05 Certified Cuts Auto 1/1
Willie Mays 05 Certified Cuts Auto /5

And a few other goodies numberd to 1, 5, 10, 15, and 25. It was a very nice lot.

Concentrated funds in one place at a show can work wonders.

Some dealers will throw more cards after big cash then they have to.

Bet someone could do great at picking up lots at the national

I have done this before in the past and it definitely works. If you were to do it, the best way to go is:

1. Do not buy the cards directly on eBay or if you do, wait at least 15-30 days till they clear out of completed auctions. When people look to buy lots, they will check completed auctions and if they know what you paid, they will probably look to pay less
2. Always try and include low numbered and rarer cards. I have sold Bowman Chrome Auto lots and because those autos are so common, people usually are smarter about what they pay. If you include 1/1s and low numbered GU/Autos, the value of the lot goes up.

It's fun putting the lots together, but definitely still a risk and can be a big investment for a small profit.
