Is this a business or hobby to you?

If it's a business, does it make fiscal sense to make that deal?

If it's a hobby, how bad do you want the card?

To me, it's a hobby and when I sell cards that funds other cards. Card money is card money, and if I want the card, I buy the card.

Not sure if what you wrote is clear - definitely sounds like both a business *and* a hobby here :)

I like the idea of looking at it as a "trade" for the other card. I'm hoping that I can do the same thing here in a few months.

To me if he is buying other cards withe the funds its like he traded the cards for cash and then traded the cash for other cards. Sounds like a legit way to help fund an expensive hobby.

Why do you care? You seem to have an issue with people who invest in cards. Even further putting cards having value or not in your sig filled with 1/1 high end cards with value. You come off confused. I would think you would have a sig of low value base cards (not that i care just an observation) the way you preach about selling for profit and investing.

Not saying it is or isn't legit business or hobby - its up to him to decide... and not you or me.

But right back at you as what you're saying sounds hypocritical - Why should you care? You seem flustered by the idea that selling cards can be work for some people and that not everyone in the hobby thinks selling should be part of a hobby.

It doesn't seem that you know what expensive really is if you think the cards in my sig are expensive... maybe that's why you sell (?).

I never said they were expensive just that they were high end (tons of high end stuff sells for very little). First off i am not flustered by anything. I just am responding once to your countless threads criticizing people for either selling or investing. Its not your right to tell anyone what to do with their cards. If you and your buddies think its wrong to sell and it should "not be part of the hobby" do us a favor and keep that one to yourselves.

Sorry I didn't mean to make you feel bad, you certainly seem flustered here.

When I was reading the first post I had in mind you trying to justify paying 800 for a 500 buck card. :|

If you have worked him down in price and dont even know what its worth then perhaps you are closer to a deal than you think.

Buy it.. I do it all the time..

I want the card for my PC and if there are limited number of these cards out there, I wouldn't hesitate.. What if this card never shows up again..

I have paid $160 for a BV $40 card to complete a rainbow.. I had never seen the card on EBAY in over 5 years..

But that's me.. I go after cards that most won't because they are too tough a set to build.. which is a challenge to me..

Good luck,

If it's a card you really want that's tough to find, there's no such thing as "overpaying." Unless you really overpay.

I think what it really comes down to is that the book value doesnt mean much anymore. Especially with things like hard to find 90s inserts and rarites. The book will just take a .15 common, apply a multiplier and bam you've got a book value. This is not the reality if 85 of the 100 copies of card are locked away in PCs. The true value of the car is what someone is willing to sell it for. If no one is willing to sell you an $8 BV card for $8 its probably worth a bit more. Thus it is hard to overpay for something that you truly value especially if you can't find another one out there. Go for it!

Market value is irrelevant. If it's a card you want and it's worth it to you for the prices asked, that is all that matters, no matter where you get the money from.
