In the span of 10-15 years, Vince Young went from being a kid in a gang to making millions in the NFL and being surrounded by fake friends who I'm sure encouraged his lavish spending. He's also not exactly a Rhodes Scholar, and probably doesn't have the capacity to manage that large a sum of money.

I don't feel bad for him, but I can understand how it could happen.

Wow, never borrow money from your agent.

Loan documents show he borrowed the $1.9 million at 20 percent interest, with $619,122 in interest paid up front, and agreed that a judgment could be entered if he missed a payment.

There have been richer guys than him to lose it all, but man...

I've always wondered why someone who gets that large sum of money so quickly, be it athlete/singer/lottery/whatever, doesn't take $1 million off the top, find someone they can really trust, (Mom?), and "stash" it away somewhere they don't even know where it is as an "emergency" fund, and only use it if everything else disappears...

I could see how people could piss it away but don't understand why. My wife and I just got a million from her trust. Instead of pissing it away we are leaving it in the bank and just taking the monthly interest it generates which is right around 2500$ a month. Which is more than enough(on top of my salary) to live nicely on

Well, I'm sure he also had to pay taxes on the 26 million, so he didn't have 26 million. It's be easy to blow through 13 million if you didn't have the right people advising you.

I think my Vine Young collection is now worth more than Vince Young himself

That's what I was gonna say. It's more like 13 after taxes. Plus the agent gets his percent too.

Of all sports you'd think football players should expect it could all end suddenly, and not spend like its going to be there forever.

What's the average career length now? Three years I think.

Ask Dez Bryant about trusting his mom, money is the root of all evil for those who don't have it or have the will to earn it themselves. Best thing any athlete could do when they get rich is forget the people who "think" they helped get you to where you are.

The best thing to do is take money and put it in a Trust Fund that can keep the money out of sight out of mind until retirement.

Well, it would be possible if you spend an average of $10,000 per day for six years (after taxes). Don't get me wrong, that's piss poor management of his money but I guess it could be done.
