Everything looks great except for the size and color of the borders. The borders look large on both the obverse and reverse...but the printing is what you would expect from one of the two printing runs of the card...

Does a small flashlight shine through the card stock?

Lastly, Mickey's name and facsimile signature should be solid black, not pixelated in the least.

I seem to remember reading about a discussion about a light test that was one way to check on the authenticity of 52 Topps. I didn't read the details though, as I didn't think I'd need the information. I'm guessing a google search will show various methods

I went to this website and everything adds up to it being Variation A. It has the full black box around Yankees, has the imperfection on the bottom left corner of the black box. The Font on the back of the card saying Topps is accurate, the S in DiMaggio's and the H in right line up and there's no break in the U in U.S.A.

Obviously the only thing is the flashlight test. I'm using an LED light from a phone and its coming through

Post it over at Net54. There are some small warning signs I can see from the pics you posted, but I'm no expert. There will be more info from that vintage-oriented crew.

Can you say what the warning signs are?

The only real sign that these pictures can show is the borders. Unfortunately, with the borders and the thin card stock, it is almost certainly a reprint. I was hopeful the large borders were an optical illusion. I can't tell if the name and signature are pixelated, but I assume they are.

Actually the name and facsimile are solid. I had scanned it at work and zoomed in several times. They weren't pixelated at all.

This thread proved how little knowledge I have of vintage. My initial reaction was guy owns a 20 million jet and he leaves you a beat to hell $20 mantle card as a tip for keeping him alive in the air?

Then I looked on eBay for completed PSA 1 prices.

Nice tip indeed, glad your hard work was appreciated.

That's positive news on the name and signature, but the flashlight test is disconcerting. You said you were using the LED from your phone...that's an extremely bring light source...so I used my Galaxy s4 on an authentic '52, but it still didn't shine through. I'm still thinking it's a really nice reprint.

Yeah the flashlight test kicked me in the gut. The LED went through the card but a flashlight did not.

Hypothetically lets say the card is a reprint. Would you tell the guy who gave it to you it was a reprint?

I probably would. We talk quite a bit so I would probably say it in passing. Without making to big a deal of it

The card is bogus. The back borders are 2x as wide as they should be.

Here's the one I just sold recently
