I've about exhausted myself going to various card shows, both local and 2-3 hours away. When I do go, I rarely find anything at all that I need for a variety of reasons. I have a large collection, a very narrow focus, and I don't collect a top prospect or player with a $10+ million salary. To make matters worse, (I've posted this before) you'd be surprised how many vendors can't pronounce Vizquel, let alone know what position he plays, his team, if he's still playing, etc. ::facepalm::
I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a show and been told "I KNOW I've got some stuff but didn't figure anyone would want it. If I'd have known, I'd have pulled it all and brought it." So I started collecting some email addresses of vendors that frequent various shows. I'll email them prior to a show to see if they've got anything new, and ask them to bring it. This seems to work out nicely, since I'm getting them to work for me. They're guaranteed a sale, probably for their asking price, and it only took me an email.
So is there a list or directory of sorts with contact info? How nice would it be to fire off a note to a bunch of vendors and let them know I'm serious about buying something? If I was a dealer, it seems to me I'd want to know what people are looking for when I knew it was a slam dunk sale for good profit.
Thoughts?
