I think it's safe to say that Stewart is a goner. Yes, Goldschmidt only had one year of control, but he's not your average rental. The D'Backs easily could've waited the market out and plucked a top prospect away from someone.

I saw the breaking news on mlb.com & before scrolling down the article on my iphone I was thinking "Well this blows, but the Cards do have some great mlb ready young starting pitchers...maybe Reyes or Flaherty with Dakota Hudson tossed in there"

After reading it all I could think is "why do all our GM's suck balls at making trades?"

I can't believe it really happened, I thought AZ would hold on and try to get him to do a sweetheart deal. It does feel like the cards got the better end but hard to predict how Goldy's decline happens, maybe he plays well until 37, 38 and this deal seems like a joke, maybe he drops off a cliff after 33, so hard to say. That's about 8 less times seeing Goldy in the opposing batters box each season... or probably a hundred more times I have the chance to see Goldy play on TV each year.
