Every year I buy a blaster and put the packs into our Halloween bowl just to see if kids will pick the candy or the cards, I thought I would share the results of this years experiment. This year I bought one blaster of Topps Update, a few loose packs of topps football, a few topps chipz and some garbage pail kids packs (at least these also came with candy). These have to compete with regular sized candy bars so the competition is fierce. The results were pretty much the same as most years, kids would much rather have a candy bar then a pack of Topps cards. There were a few young boys that even picked out the cards, realized what they were and put them back for candy. My wife felt bad when a few young girls took the cards instead of candy, I don't think they knew what they were.

The good news is we gave away all the candy (we had a ton of trick or treaters this year) and I at least get to open a few packs of update now, as that is all we have left. My wife was embarresed to give the last few kids cards as this is all we had since we ran out of candy but I told her "hey it's trick OR treat", this time I think they got the trick lol.

Anyways I keep hoping that maybe this will get kids interested in cards, but I'm really just starting to think that kids don't care about sportscards. I think next year I'm going to see if pokemon cards get a better reaction.

I gave away the retail packs of Topps update .
I gave every kid a choice either candy or cards, (the candy was peanut butter snickers)
I gave away 50 packs of cards and still have half a bag of candy left..
Except for the really young kids, 75% of the kids wanted the cards..
Even half the girls opted for baseball cards.

My wife was shocked...We heard some kids telling their parents that they got baseball cards!!

Wow nice job, hopefully some of those kids will get into collecting now. Or they might have picked the cards because they are allergic to peanuts, you never know!

We also gave kids a choice and we were probably 2/3 candy and 1/3 cards this year. I put together 50 packs of approx 10 cards using team bags and I had 6 left over. This worked out well since now my 3 kids (ages 4, 2, and 2) have a few packs of cards for themselves.
