Looking on Ebay Im noticing a lot of the top prospects cards can be had at pretty reasonable prices. There are a lot of guys hyped right now, but from the prices these cards were at on release (I know thats when their at their highest and almost always drop) most have come down. Right now, outside of guys who have already semi-established themselves, do you see any player/players cards who have Pujols level potential in terms of their cash value. Obviously the base autos will never reach the $1k mark......right? If one of these guys (say Lars Anderson) was to reach "Pujols status" as far as production, could any of them reach a new high? If you say yes, whos your pick for the guy to do it? Not looking to steal anyones investment or anything of that sort, just looking for some prospect convo.

I wouldn't say that a guys regular chrome couldn't hit $1,000 if he put up Pujols type production. Ryan Howard's Bowman's Best reached, what, $900?

I'd say some of Upton's refractor versions could reach Pujols level if he'd have a break out year while he is still young...but I believe AZ would have to be competititve as well.

I think David Wright can come close to 500 for a base chrome along with Hanley and Braun. ITs hard to compare cause there are 500 Alberts (but who really knows) but clearly golds or current stars can reack 1K.

Pujols had the benefit of being featured in a set that was groundbreaking. Ryan Howard only had 1 auto'd rookie card (excluding his UD USA card of course). I don't think you'll see another base card hit the $1000 mark unless we see another truly groundbreaking set. Right now, players either have too many variations or too many rookie cards spread out among different products.

BTW - Hanley and Braun chromes never got to $500 each (for raw versions at least).

Not only are there only 500 Pujols Chromes...but that is it...you have a lot more regulars and you don't have ref, x, blue, gold, (orange sometimes), Red, and the super.

Figuring out the stats, age, and team of a prospect that could reach Pujols numbers with a, lets just say, Blue refractor is hard and those are numbered out of /150 in most cases.

Right now, I'd say Upton and Longoria.

But really, when you are trying to name the guy that is going to go .300+, 30+, and 100+ for the first 7 years of his career...well, GL.

As well as gold glove defense and being "clutch"

Upton's AFLAC auto reached between $600-800 raw last year at the beginning of the season. Had it continued, that could have been a $1000 raw card.

Maybin's has the potential to reach similar levels with a monster start this season, as he will be the starting centerfielder in Miami.

Remember, they are only serial numbered to 125, with Topps reporting that only 90 were released. How many other players have so limited a run of their first RC auto?

If Longo has only 500 Chrome autos in 2006, then I could see prices hitting near $1000 during the postseason run last year.

Considering it sold for $1400 at one point, that's very faint praise.

The Pujols BC RC is a unique item that defies comparison to other cards except maybe the 52T Mantle or T206 Wagner. While I'm not comparing values, obviously, or long-term stature, I'm saying it's pricing was out of all proportion with similar cards. It was simply the one that people latched onto and prices were driven beyond what you could normally expect for an autographed card with 500 copies. And predicting that sort of mania is tougher than simply prospecting.

You've basically just named David Wright. His 162 game Average through the first 703 games of his career-309-30-113-21SB. He also has 2 Gold Gloves.

I agree here. Bowman would have to come out with an autographed patch RC on card auto with a player of superstar potential that was somewhat limited to have any chance at a Pujols level, even that is pushing it.

I think both Hanley and Braun have a good shot at it with continuing dominance.
