Re: Carl Crawford just signed with the Boston Red Sox

In 3-5 years this signing is going to look crazy (20+ Million/Year) but for the time being dang! the Red Sox are looking good this year :o

Are they going to be raising their payroll to yankee level? I mean they still have to re-sign Gonzo right?

Shep :ugeek:

What's going to happen with Ellisbury and Ryan Kalish now? Anyone with some insight, help me out.

Wow. Talk about having a good group to lead this team: Gonzalez, Crawford, Pedroia, and Youk.

All NO BS Gamers. Might be the best core in baseball now.

I don't know if Youkilis counts as "No BS"

I cant believe you're making me do this......Its not the Sox fault, blame the Rays, its their fire sale.

When fans dont support their team, the big boys leave when their time comes.

I know it's not the Red Sox fault, the title is out of frustration. However, There is no way 80% of the teams in baseball can pay Crawford 20 million dollars. I don't fault the Rays fully for this one.

The Crawford signing is fantastic, yes, but the team still needs a solid bullpen. Which at this point they really don't have.

Agreed. This is where Ellsbury comes in. I think they deal him for bullpen help, Start Cameron in the outfield and have Kalish as the 4th outfielder.

I can't imagine them selling Ellsbury at this low a value. Better to burn up some money than a guy coming off an injury plagued year.

Sox have kind of been bullied by the Yankees since 2008. Looks like their striking back bigtime now:

"Report: Red Sox offered Lee seven years":

"According to a report from Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox offered free agent pitcher Cliff Lee a seven-year deal this week. Rosenthal cites a source from another team as saying that Boston gave the pitcher a low-ball offer regarding dollars so Lee's camp could use the seventh year to get the Yankees to up their offer. The Yankees have reportedly offered Lee a six-year deal worth between $138 million and $150 million, with Lee wanting a seventh year."

He's reporting that the Sox didn't offer enough money to become a serious contender, but made the offer to increase the cost of a potential Yankee deal.

I know, thats what Im saying. They get the 2 guys they wanted this offseason and then make it more difficult for the Yankees to get their guy.
