What happened to him after the all-star break?
Pre All-Star
AB = 163
Runs = 26
HR = 5
RBI = 18
SB = 11/14
.233/.280/.423
Post All-Star
AB = 160
Runs = 35
HR = 11
RBI = 26
SB = 19/21
.282/.327/.530
Extrapolate those 160 post all-star ABs over a full year and you have a guy scoring 100 runs, 75 rbi, 30 HR ,and 60 SB. The guy has always had a ton of talent, has he finally put it all together or is this just an extended hot streak? On one hand, he is only 26 years old so that points to this being legit. On the other hand, he still struck out 34 times with only 8 walks in his 160 post all-star break stats.
For those that seem him play regularly, has he learned to lay off bad pitches? What's he doing differently?
Personally, I think he will always be a low OBP guy with power and silly speed going forawrd. He may go 20 HR/40 SB this year and there's no reason he can't settle into that range over the next five years.
Just so you don't need to look them up yourself, here are his totals for the year.
AB = 319
Runs = 61
HR = 16
RBI = 44
SB = 30/35
.257/.303/.475
And one of my favorite moments of the year, Gomez circling the bases on a foul ball.
