those refractor prices are a tad bloated. Right before that one sold for $49.99 and right after that 4 BGS 9.5 sold for 83.99 70.99 76.99 & 83.85

Nope. It's going to take a gun to get them away from me. I had though about selling my 9.5 Topps Update X-Fractor, but decided to hold onto it as well.

Personally, I'm glad to see it. I've never understood why second year autographed cards are selling for as much as if not more than the player's first card.

I know this sounds a bit weird (and maybe egotistical), but I've wondered if my holding onto his 1 of 1 rookie cards has actually hurt the market somewhat. Normally when a player gets hot, and his best possible cards sell for crazy $, it has a trickle down effect on the rest of his cards.

[quote="AKA Coastal":2dlim974]Some crazy prices for unsigned bowman chrome parallels. Nice to see non-autographed cards demanding these kind of prices. Who was the last player to bring these kind of prices to non-auto'd BC stuff?

$156 '05 Bowman Chrome Refractor
$340 BGS 9.5 '05 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor
$120 '05 Bowman Chrome Blue Refractor
$150 BGS 9.5 '05 Bowman Chrome Green Refractor

Have you thought about selling your superfractors?[/quote:2dlim974]

That's a really interesting point. The bigger stuff is hard to put a price on, but it often does set the bar for where a player's cards should sell.

Sweet card. The BGS 9.5 Sterling Red RC Logo 1/1, sold for 200. Should have picked it up.

I was thinking about hitting the bin, just couldn't get myself to pull the trigger.

Same here; I'd rather spend the money on another prominent superfractor, than a third/fourth -year "RC". Still, I see that card's price going way up. Let's see if it returns to the market, soon.

Hey guys,

Been out of the collecting world for quite some time. I believe the last set I put together was the 2001 Topps Heritage Set, but have still been buying various Bowman/Chrome boxes since. I spent way too much money on those high # series cards, but it was fun. Who knows what that set is worth now? Anyway, just had our first child after 11 years of marriage and to our suprise it was a boy. It seemed to bring the kid out in me again and now I want to do things for him that I can do. I am very familiar with the hobby, although I am still having trouble trying to figure out how there can be a 2005 & 2008 version of RC cards. I am really excited to start collecting for my son and since we live in Colorado, I wanted to start with some Rockies players. I watch baseball as much as I can and I love to watch "Cargo" (Carlos Gonzalez) and Ian Stewart. So I started to watch rookies and decided to pull the trigger on a couple of Cargo RC's. Then I did my research and I am confused about all the refractors etc.... While I realize research and buying should happen in the reverse order, I thought that my older experience was still good. What would be the Ultimate RC card for Gonzalez if I was searching? Should I look for those "Refractors" or just high grade RC's. I was really interested in the BGS 10 of the blue refractor earlier in this thread, but I am afraid it will go for more than I REALLY want to spend for a "chance", I would rather invest in a Griffey Jr. BGS 10. Anyway, I don't know if my question makes sense, but I will still do my research and I am just looking for an educated opinion. I look forward to future talks on the forum.

Cheers,
Chris

Welcome back to collecting! The best possible cards for Gonzalez I would say are the ones that come out of the 2005 products; Topps Update, Bowman, and Bowman Chrome. From there, it's a question of which cards you like and how much you are looking to spend.

Thanks Sean,

Indirectly, you kind of answered my bit about the whole issue with RC's issued in different years. That obviously has not changed since I left. I remember getting a Topps Todd Helton RC because it was the first one issued. I already bought a couple of Chrome RC's for Gonzalez and picked up a 9.5 BGS for the price of the grading a couple of months ago. I suppose what I am a little more confused about is the "Refractor" boom if you will. Are they worth the extra investment or is it better to go with the BGS high grade stuff? Sorry, did not mean to turn this into a different RC refractor discussion, I am sure if I search there has been a previous discussion.

Cheers,
Chris Kampmann

I'd say go with high grade refractors if you can. His Bowman Chrome cards seem to sell better than his Topps Update cards, likely due to the reputation of Bowman. His Blue Refractor is indeed a really nice card, and I can't imagine that there are going to be many refractors of any color that will be getting a BGS 10 grade. There are a couple of Gold Refractors currently listed that are nice as well.

All in all, it's about getting ones you like and are comfortable with.

His home/away stats are ridiculous: .375 15 HR at home and .269 5 HR away. Extremely overrated if you ask me.

His walks could be an issue going forward as well. His walk rate has fallen 50% since last year!

Guys, this is his first full year in the big leagues, cut the kid a break. Why do "we" always try to find the negative in every player? The dude is having a phenomenal year and has loads of talent, why not leave it at that?

Thanked. Was at the game where Tulo won it with the 3 run HR friday night. CarGo is incredible for a hitter his age. I wouldn't worry about the home/road splits. What impresses me the most about him is his lefty/righty splits, as he hits lefties even better than righties. To me, that means that he's staying on pitches well, leading to the possibility that the strikeout numbers will drop as time progresses. In a time where lots of young lefties are frequently sitting on the bench against lefty starters, I think CarGo is definitely something special as he hits both sides very well. He impresses the hell out of me.

Certainly one of the most surprising and most appreciated events during my time on the Beckett boards. Your generosity has never been forgotten, and it has been one of my most favorite cards in my collection.
